I do not want to put blam on anyone, just think it was not thought through well enough, peaple do make mistakes thats way we are called humans and not androids.
I aslo lost that ISO file, before I got around to burn it, (I know about it, but I guess I wonted to play around whit the system) I was looking around in media toolbox and acidently my DH1 became a mess, I love to get my files back but I have no idea how to recover it, thats no ones fualt but my own, would have, should have, made backup (two months of work lost) and burned the cd but it does not matter.
My system boots and so its not big issue, even if it did not be one lucky too have the old XE so I get up and running.
I know AmiKit put lot of work into installing and setting up the computer, and its really nice.

It takes time but most users have made a backup of the ISO so it's not much of a problem. _________________ Amiga Kit Amiga Store Links: www.amigakit.com | New Products | A600GS |

Nice article! I hadn't seen that before. Will this method of making a bootable USB stick work with a micro A1 as well?

Dont know if the Micro A1 can boot from a USB device. An IDE to SDcard or CF adapter should work though. _________________ Sam460ex : Radeon Rx550 Single slot Video Card : SIL3112 SATA card |

I think it's possible. UBoot can actually boot off a USB drive. You can set USB as a boot source. However, it needs to scan the bus for a mass storage device first, before it acknowledges the USB drive. You can probably add a scan command to the mentboot variable, but I haven't tested this.
I've setup a USB stick via the aforementioned method. And in the UBoot CLI i manually booted it by issuing usb commands to scan the bus and then boot it.
However, after testing this method I don't think it's worth it. UBoot, at least on our AmigaOne machines, is horrendously slow at reading off USB. Consider USB1.0 speed, 1.5Mbps. Well taking overheads into account that should give at least 100KB a second. Not so! IIRC, it takes about a minute or even two almost to locate an SLB and then load it in!
What that? ~40KB of boot blocks. Off CD which is mechanical compared to electronic in this case it takes seconds! It's just not worth it. We have a bad UBoot full of old, buggy code that won't be fixed officially for our machines.
Might as well use eSATA. Or a USB to IDE/SATA adapter if it existed. |

Nice to know that it can be done . It could help someone in the event of the CD/DVD reader acting up and not having a quick replacement available. It takes me from 5-7 days to get small replacement parts shipped to me. Larger items can wait 35 miles away from me for up to two weeks before they reach. So total time between order and delivery can be up to three weeks.

I estimate it would take 5-7 days to boot off USB!
For emergency yes it would be useful. But it would also take ages. You could be waiting an hour at least just to load the Kickstart. Then OS4 needs to be able to continue booting off USB.
If UBoot could read at the speed the on board hardware supports (USB1.1 ~900KB/s) this wouldn't be a major issue.
Booting off TFTP would be faster.
But if a custom boot loader could be written that sets up the hardware to speed up USB this might be a viable option. Last edited by Hypex on 02-Jun-2013 at 04:09 PM. Last edited by Hypex on 18-May-2013 at 06:06 AM.

Got my board swapped to a new one as the repair takes some time and amigakit dont want me to wait too long. Man im happy. There was times i thought i will finally leave amiga and concentrate on windows and android. Seems im doomed to stay an amigan.
Once an amigan... always an amigan ;) Thanks amigakit
Oh right i bought a new psu just to be sure everything is ok.

at last! seems the actually broken boards are irreparable, but good to know that the warranty obligations are taken seriously and users are served with replacement. |

Glad you're up and running again! You're one of my favorite Amigans (because you use your machine for creativity puruits like so many Amiga users did in the old days), so glad we didn't lose you.

Good news Kicko, I know how it feels to buy a new system, only to have to send it back. It feels great when it comes back again. _________________ Hate tends to make you look stupid... |

I hope you learned a few lessons from this experience.
1. Always have a recent backup of your system available in a safe location.
2. Never ask for repair advice here in the forums as your first plan of attack to resolve any issues with your X1000. You should be asking on the official Hyperion forums for the X1000 and/or directly to AmigaKit and A-Eon instead.
3. When making changes to your X1000, always take your time and think them through completely before you begin.
I'm glad it all worked out for you, but disappointed that you started a thread about it here before actually contacting Hyperion, AmigaKit, or A-Eon first. _________________ Amiga! The computer that inspired so many, to accomplish so much, but has ended up in the hands of . . . . . . . . . . |

We are a family no? ;) I'd tell my brother before etc... ok I'll cut the crap off. Did maybe the same "mistake" with my XE.
@kicko
Good it's going. My quite expensive repaired XE is waiting for some serious stuff still. Waited for a long time and then saw that nothing really has happened in the printing, web etc area. Maybe a nice machine for a museum but still hoping and bought OS4,1 for support and to be compatible with the office, printing and browsing.
How can it be so hard? In 1997 it was very good. IB, FW,DP, TurboPrint.
Not turning to linux as it would be the same as buying an expensive different xx car and putting a cheap different engine inside. Not a good One but hope the best with the One!
