I'm guessing there are simply not many PA6T CPUs out there and that's what's driving the price up.

Manufacturing price isn´t that big, some companies are simply greedy.

It has been a bad decision from the start to use such a rare chip.

PA6T offered best features in comparison to alternatives - two cores, 64 bit, "AltiVec", rich expansion possibilities (full PCIe x16) etc.

And as long as the last x1000 has not yet shipped out from AmigaKit, any interested person should email AmigaKit about his/her interest, if not done so already.

im not sure how you can be so certain about, but well, lets take this as given. the question is however, wasnt that predictable? i mean this is simplemarket behaviour, things available in low quantities get costly. the question is why to stick tp "greedy"..

Trevor said there is enough PA6T CPUs, when companies with stock saw there is demand, they simply doubled price.

That's how the market works, sadly.

thats whai we ve been told. personally i trust trevor but since this had been said so clearly why are other things left in the dark? like the number of units. one could claim such info would be business damaging but this concerns the released info about cpu price as well, doesnt it?

@Moxee

I agree with most of your points, It's not Amigakit fault and everybody had a path to order what is called a "first contact" X1000, meaning a X1000 delivered without OS4.2 and with some beta drivers. Lot of people like me with the funds were simply waiting for the full OS4.2 X1000 release because the minimum you can expect when spending so much money is at least to have 2 cores and full 3D support. But now, it looks like there will be never a normal full release of X1000+OS4.2 and this is annoying

Trevor mentioned around 400 sold X1000 in his AmiWest 2012 presentation. That seems too big number to me, maybe I misheard something.

With the amount of money invested in the motherboard design and creation I'm surprised they did not secure a big enough quantity of the CPUs to ensure they had a sufficient quantity in stock at a known price.

Leftover stock could always have been sold back into the market.

maybe, but little hard to believe, given this list of os4 users in poland (for example), being the own record by os4 users from autumn 2012, after trevors interview. you may notice there is three confirmed x1k owners, which was also repeatedly claimed other places. there is few more users in germany i know of.

Still sitting on my XE Repair.. But seriously if there is more demand there is a price cut.

Waiting for the new trouble;) Maybe even buying it when You sort it out..

Edit: More Price demand if not developing anymore? Like this PIV;)

You know, CPU:s are "thrown away" and these fellows get hundreds of a cpu?

I hope we get some drivers and kick ass for Atari, Finally!

(Or do the MOS thingie, have two going to trash sadly)

4 X1000! I wouldn´t expect that much in Poland (for comparison: around same number of ALL OS4 users in the Czech Republic).

@Seblam

You have to grab what you can while you can.

I registered interest in the original AmigaONE in March 2002, received a board in April 2003 and got the first public beta of OS4 in June 2004.

In the years that there was no new OS4 hardware available people called me lucky. I was not lucky, I was dedicated and didn't sit around waiting for Jesus to fall out of the sky.

Hi to loser (74.200.72.162) at moobunny.

Oh come on, I have a microA1, an A1XE and a Peg2 so I'm not waiting Jesus or anything else. You are kidding mate! First contact were announced as a batch for those who cannot wait to put their hand on the X1000 even with beta drivers and an OS that is not using full potential of the machine (dual core and 3D).
And because I have already OS4 machines, I decided to wait for the full X1000+OS4.2 release that was announced but now looks like it will never happen, that's it.

During my visit I am meeting with Varisys, the designers of the A1-X1000, to discuss the current production schedule and review plans for future hardware development.

I wish community would be asked what they want from the next HW.

@KimmoK

I wish the community would give realistic answers if asked such a question. Since it doesn't, why bother asking in the first place?

Using "voltage" instead of "potential", which leads to inventing new words like "amperage" instead of "current" (I, measured in A) or possible "charge" (amperehours, Ah or Coulomb, C). Sometimes I don't even know what people mean.
