We need something really opensource (including dependencies). I read on amigans that the newest version of OWB is not only heavily dependent on MUI4 for GUI but (what is worse in my view) that important parts are now in closed source components so that porting (almost) makes no sense more. If that is true it makes OWB worthless for other platforms. |

You can always ask Friedens for Timberwolf sources.
For 68k platform (main platform for both of us), NetSurf is probably best solution (I mean real NetSurf, not that horrible OS3 port). |

Actually, they will give you sources per request. However, I can´t say, how useful these sources are.

OS3 version is not even part of main source branch. |

that is what I mean. Timberwolf is certainly as dependent on AmigaOS as OWB on MorphOS. We need something that is open and portable with all dependencies open either.
I do not know the Netsurf sources. At the moment I am glad that we have a port at all. There is a Netsurf AGA version. Is that version faster? Any experience? |

You must be joking. Fixed screen resolution to 640x512 is not something I would use for webbrowser. IBrowse is still No. 1 browser on my setup. |

IBrowse is long out of development. So your favorite is ancient now, all others have a lot of limitations and/or are too slow (at least for most classic setups). So we really need some development there. But I personal have neither necessary skills nor time at the moment to look there and there are still a lot of other things to do. |

trolling are we? timberwolf apparently doesnt even run well on highest end os4 hardware. why would anyone want the source for amiga or aros68k? chris doesnt want to port his netsurf front end to amiga and none else has been found despite endless discussions. netsurf aga will is already ixemul independent.the full screen mode is even somewhat convenient on low resolution amiga chipset so far i see it. besides as soon as novacoder reintroduces rtg support to his library, some sort of windowed mode might get reintroduced too, who knows.
on the other hand aros owb proves to be working on high end amiga hardware. not very fast but given aros is still generally slow, it might get faster yet. one can assume that webkit based browser like odyssey will work too.
i dont see other quick to d and affordable alternatives. your points are not constructive im sorry. |

Performance of WinUAE on even not so recent x86 hardware is comparable to 1 GHz PowerPC CPU, should be sufficient for FireFox with some optimalisations.

NetSurf SDL is bad by design. Did you try to use it? IBrowse is fast, much more stable and offers many useable features. I don´t say all SDL ports are bad (DosBox AGA is a jewel!), but this one really is.

And that is main problem - most skilled developers now use OS4 or MorphOS. Without this manpower, even portable webbrowser like NetSurf is hard task. |

the challenge is to have it working on uae and genuine amiga if possible. firefox doesnt fit in here imho, too slow, too bloathed, too much work to port, no ressources to maintain and keep up with development pace, it will never feel native, and,and,and...

yes. on my 060.

im fine with ibrowse but obviously there is a reason people want more up to date browser.

Not possible. Maybe on higher clocked 68060, but most of us still have only 68030. WinUAE (or UAE in general) is best suited for any modern software attempt - at least with current limited developer base. |

I repeat: most of us still use 68030. Until reasonable priced 68060 class accellerator appears, UAE is way to go for high-end Amiga experience. |

060 accelerators are affordable (no comparison to ppc hardware ;) ) of course 030 users (with usually 16mb ran or something) will prefer to stick to ibrowse or aweb, reasonably. do you want to persuade us not to try to find a solution for a more up to date browser for higher end amigas? whats your point? |

For 500 USD, you can have used SAM.

No, not at all.
Quote:
Most common Classic Amiga hardware upgrade is 68030. Most common high-end Amiga hardware is "UAE". 68060 has only small segment of users - too much expensive for real Classic, too under-powered in comparison to UAE. Choice is clear: Classic compatibility = 68030 - or most powerful hardware available = UAE. |

so you want to to prohibit me to use the few 060 systems i own and force to use uae instead? cmon, ill be most happy if we find a solution for 030 users, perhaps we will, firefox is not the way. lets stop this senseless discussion..
btw, there is a whole number of amiga users who are very excitied and supportive about novacoders and arturs work on aga sdl.library and aga.netsurf, check eab, aorg and other sites for feedback instead nitpicking here.
