Always best to stop ANY political or religous talk the moment it comes up.

Was a nice quote though...

@sundown

Bah. Helluva quote indeed and not the least bit political. Greatest respect to those who do. Not so much for others.

I think this AmigaONE X5000 name is really boring.
I would have liked the computer to be named Miley.

The drama factor fits at least...

Are you sure you didn't mean 'tweek'? Otherwise how do you tell when you're at the code's 'booty'?

@Valiant

Heh heh. Well, he said Miley, so I thought of twerking. That concludes this bit of comic relief. :D

I too think it's a wrong name. Firstly because the machine before it was called X1000 and a leap up to 5000 seems way too much.

And second because when I once dreamed of an Amiga 5000 this isn't what I hoped for. (Super Cell based beast with AAAAAA chipset ) - something where the world would say WOOOOW - and never had seen anything like it. Just like the original A1000

But that's maybe just me (and many of us) who can't let go of the world domination thoughts, and the need to be superior like the originals....sigh

I think it should have been called Cyrus too. But no matter what it'll end up being called - or how many chips it's got, it is by far the fastest hardware EVER for AmigaOS, and that alone is quite an achievment.

it is one hellof an effort to make this happen. Thank you to all involved parties

Keep this party going!

Cue "if only AmigaOS would run on x86 hardware" fanatic in 3. 2. 1...

Don't think that will happen ever again, doubt the general population even notice that Amiga still exists.

As for the names I think that they are as good as any and make sence. Its whether I'll be able to afford one thats more of a concern.

Once the computer world got true colour graphics and realistic sound with hardware acceleration there's not much else you can do. Could you turn the world black and white again in order to bring back colour? Perhaps I'm not being creative here but I really don't see anything a proper new Amiga could bring to the world. Or anything else for that matter

Maybe one day the world will get a computer with a new super CPU matched to a live 3d graphic chip with multiple 3d sprites and playfields and a sound chip with multiple channels including live effects at 200Khz 64-bit. Or somnething like that. But while we have Intel, chunky 32-bit graphics and barely 24-bit sound that's not going to happen.

I will make one comment on the name. Notice it's all numbers and no words. This is interesting as in the car industry an expensive car usually doesn't have a real name and has instead numbers. Where as an inexpensive car usually has a real name. I find this interesting because the cheaper car companies put thought into the name but the expensive ones just look lazy.

as soon as "amiga" would bring anything really revolutionary to the table the user base would reject it, because it wouldnt be an "amiga" anymore. and im not pointing fingers, since this is how id probably react too.

what concerns your observation about cars its just a matter of good taste. for a technical product some numbers suit better than a pretentious name.

Nice quote, but a bit incongruent with your avatar, don't you think?

X5000 — I like the name, but perhaps it would have been better to work up through the sequence: X2000, X3000, etc. Anything above X5000 is uncharted territory.

Just out of curiosity, and putting all concerns about feasibility etc aside ...

So ... an Amiga would be defined by what it has been ? Could it not be that being revolutionary is part of what Amiga, or the Amiga spirit, is all about ?

So A-EON completely missed the ball by trying to push the envelope again, by including what they perceived as revolutionary features such as Xorro ?

(please bear with me, no ill will with this question)

@Thread,

I would have liked the model number to tell you what it is. These machines should be the X2020 and the X4024. Number of cores + Altivec yes/no + Frequency. You know what it is right off the top.

@tlosm,

Does not look like it tells you anything about the CPU configuration.

With my system the X1000 would be a X2118 and my XE would be a X1110, Easy.
