@Hypex

Its not in Beta? The AmigaOne X1000 has AmigaOS 4.1 Update 6 working on it right now, just like every other OS 4.1 capable hardware.

It really should be called beta or even alpha when important advertised features are not supported by the OS.

@Tomas

The two features you mentioned are not even the domain of the OS, one is the RadeonHD driver and the other is the Warp3D system.

@Tomas

Have had coffee with vox?

IIRC Radeon 9xxx series has full support. Aside from full HW 3d. Do you really expect multi core support on OS4? I don't! Just because hardware is on an AmigaOne board doesn't mean OS4 is going to use it.

And, X86 may have solved some problems but it would have introduced others. Mostly software related I'd say. But, say they brought out an x86 board, I bet it would be a cheap PC CPU mated to a very expensive motherboard!

@amigakit

I didn't see the announcement that the X1000 was out of beta. In any case if it's not beta why don't all applications work?

First Contact was the first public build of AmigaOS 4.1 for the AmigaONE X1000 - that was announced two years ago.

Other OS such as Windows and MacOS have numerous updates and fixes published for them every month, but they are not considered Beta. Likewise, AmigaOS 4.1 has numerous updates published through AMIUPDATE. Here is the long list: http://update.amigaos.net/

os4 is bound to narrow choice of apparently dedicated hardware. shouldnt the hardware drivers for these devices be considered integral part of the product the customer expects for his money? how else would os output anything to the user if graphics drivers were all but third party?

also i think when talking of hardware 3d support the users expect gallium implementation rather than w3d for backward compatibility (isnt that abandoned anyway?), as it was advertised as features along the multicore support even before the x1k release afaik,

@wawa

A-EON has the distribution rights to the latest RadeonHD driver and it was commissioned to provide a modern, wide range of graphics card choice for A-EON customers, i.e. RadeonHD 5000 series / 6000 series and 7000 series. This is because the AmigaONE X1000 pushed hardware in new directions so it was deemed necessary for new software developments to keep pace with the evolving hardware technologies.

In 2014 A-EON will continue to invest in updates to driver software primarily for AmigaONE X1000 customers with further enhancements. A-EON will also invest in new features for hardware drivers and go beyond adding basic support. AmigaONE X1000 is still A-EON's flagship product and a high priority.

AmigaOS 4.1 has evolved out of Classic AmigaOS 3.1. Because AmigaOS 4.1 distribution is largely unchanged over the years, all the legacy Picasso96 drivers which are also needed for Classic are in still distributed with the OS such as ATIRadeon, Voodoo, Permedia, AGA etc, although with lots of tweaks, enhancements and bug fixes over the years.

As you may have read, Gallium is slated as a 4.2 feature.

Thanks to those of you who don't have the foresight, aptitude, dedication, or even willingness to produce your fantasy product, yet you tirade against others because they don't materialize a product from blurred images that only exists in your mind. Thank you because you create an easy discrimination between the workers who create excellent AmigaOne products, versus the whiners who have no product offering at all.

@logicalheart

agreed:)

Be grateful for what have been released for our system, true, it's expensive, but we could in fact had nothing at all. think about that, Amiga classic & next generation should not survived when commodore went bankrupt. but we are still here, 2013 the best year ever in years. we need new hardware, but new technology that is implemented is good and safe for us to have, not something that is like a defect just be course the drivers isn't ready, they will for sure come, just takes some time. try to remember we still here when we shouldn't be alive.. we hanging on be course us Amiga lovers will not give up. try to understand the dedication and hard working stuff behind the scenes to give us a new way to have AmigaOS on new hardware.

please, we can't afford to have people being negative all the time. they are doing the best they can. all the negative talk really have impact on amiga development if it get's any worse.

Every thing you want with the amiga hardware/software will come for sure if we try to support it a little better all of us.

if you don't support it or don't want it, stay out of the thread, don't destroy it for us that is interested.

just sharing my mind bobbling..

@Hypex

"Do you really expect multi core support on OS4?"

I expect!

I'm sure all NG flavours will have multicore support because there is no alternative to it.

To my understanding beta testers have access to xkernell with alpha/beta multicore support. Feel free to correct if I'm wrong.

Interesting to see when we get first public demo?
@Amigakit
Any estimate when there would be some demo of multicore support? (community would love that)

btw... lookin forward to some low end solution as my next HW investment.
(like EfikaPPC but SoC replaced with T1020 or similar ... 1.4Ghz dualcore might be overkill as low end but anyway... )

@amigakit

Looking forward to all the new software coming this year for the X1000. I have had my X1000 for a couple of years now and I am very pleased with the system. Whilst development may not have been as quick as we would of liked at least it is still ongoing. 4.1 on the X1000 is most certainly not in beta. It is a fast, smooth OS and a pleasure to use.

X5000 that the name I voted for, glad it won, best of luck with it.

I find it amazing that after all the X1000 problems, with cost, getting software support, all the trolling and complaining the community sometime does, they actually want to do it all again. I commend them.

@amigang

If any company is going to base their desicions and motivation based on so called "comunities" they wouldnt get much done at all.

Can just read any game and hardware forum on any platforms and they are filled with trolling, raging, drama etc etc.
Considering the number of X1000s aeon seems to have sold, the socalled members of comunity appears to be the vocal minority.

Im sure Trevor and CO appricates this.

@Overflow

If it was based on the comunities' decisions it would be X86 board with an FPGA 68070, triple A chipset, ARM tablet with 24 serial ports that fits in the A1200 trapdoor. All for under $100, of course.

It really does hint to some sort of insanity, but as far as I'm concerned it's insanity in a good way
