Defo not "work" filter.

At my parents house I set up the wireless inet etc, and have been able to post from there ever since.
Today I tried to log onto AW and I got the blacklist IP message.
Did get the same from a different IP on the other side of the country while staying at a private inet connection.

Currently back at my own house which seems to be "untouched" by the blacklist police.

So AW got some issues to resolve if they want members to keep posting. Then again, maybe the admin team thinks some of us are better off not posting?

Hmm, on another thread today, posting worked on the first try. Wondering if it will do that here as well....

Had to try twice, but not due to the blacklisting. Instead Chrome said the page wasn't available.

And that worked. Trying again.

@DWolfman

So did something get changed here? Not that I'm complaining, but I've been able to put all these posts in just now without a single blacklist response from the work computer.

The blacklisted IPs are due to the spammers hitting this site with offers for handbags and other assorted junk. Unfortunately blocking them sometimes affects our real users and we apologize for that.

If your IP does get blocked then try and email us or contact us in some way (you can get hold of me on Amiga.org if all else fails).

@Darrin

So far today I haven't been getting blocked. So maybe the blacklist got updated at Spamhaus?

Thing is I'm getting "page not found" a lot now in Chrome instead.

Anyway, as I mentioned before I've got no easy way to know what IP address is being blocked from work due to the network configuration and the fact the blocking page from AmigaWorld.net doesn't tell me what IP address it was. I understand the why and do support finding a good way to keep the spam off the forums. Just hoping for a better process here, like maybe a way for me to find out from the site what IP address I used that was blocked, or maybe using a better blacklist.

@Darrin

It would be really handy if there was an email address to get hold of just anybody who could help with problems like this.

For help with a different problem, I ended up re-registering with a different nick before I could get hold of a mod (thanks tomazkid) to help me.

@DWolfman

The issue of the blocking isn't so much us as the module on the server (which uses spamhaus lists for the blocking).

Essentially all we are doing is checking the IP against the list, and if it is on there, blocking it. Most of the logging in or posting issues stem from the fact that the IP you are accessing the site from has been blocked for a specific reason by spamhaus.

The solution is to not use that provider (if it was a work based one which seems to be the common thing for those complaining about this so far), then unless your workplace resolve the issue and ask spamhaus to update their list, you are going to have problem accessing the site from that location.

@OldAmigan

We did have a general e-mail address for staff to access and be contacted on, but I haven't been able to access it for a very long time - and it began to be hit by a lot of spam messaging the last time I did see it (which was several years back now). I will try to see if we can sort something out for this again.

That's a pity, I used to like using this site during the work week. But recently I've been sticking to EAB instead. Surely there's some other system you could use other than Spamhaus? No other Amiga forum appears to be suffering from this issue, and I would expect they all would experience a similar level of attacks.

Yes, the staff email was one of the dozen or so I tried. Thanks for looking into it.

It's ok to say don't use that provider but it isn't usually quite as simple as that, is it.

At the moment I use a T-mobile (EE) dongle through the week, because it's the only one I can get a signal of any decent strength with. I'm working away from home in the week.

I can use my phone on tether (Vodafone) but it's usually slower than old-fashioned dial-up.

Well, something has changed at least. I have not seen a blacklisted response for at least a month now.

That's because we banned them all.

Yep, I used to get the blacklist thing at work and that's stopped for me too. Although the company web filter still flags various ads, sites and threads with a big "STOP!" at times.

@Darrin

as a side note ... few weeks ago, my ISP notified me that my IP was on a blacklist. It was in the 87.xx.xx range. I wasn't able to connect with my mail service (same provider).

Re-booted the router, and the dinamic IP was then renewed in the 97.xx.xx range and the "blacklist" notification, gone.

Go figure!!!

@Framiga

When in doubt, reboot everything! :D

I went through hell with my Internet provider earlier this month. I lost count how many times I had to reset my modem.

@DWolfman

I got this a little while ago. And it was quite annoying if not confusing. I don't know what the computer was doing on the other end at the time it blocked me, but I was able to log in, press the reply button, but as soon as I attempt to post it says the IP is blacklisted! Argh!!

Been fine here since. But I hate having to save PMs, not because I don't trust
the computer, but because I was banned from replying mid-reply.
