@All
4.1 FE feels more stable than 4.1.6 on X1000.

only have small issues and problems but nothing important that I could workaround to solve

Thanks to Hyperion and all involved. Final Edition is the best AmigaOS version ever.....
Very happy!

Very easy install procedure too...Im impressed with all work that have been done so far..

@Metalheart

thanks for the Fonts info, I also would not have looked there.

I also have a quesion on block size. I formatted my partitions at 4096 blocks and Odessey seems a little slower under FE. (FE seems great). Should I reformat System: and use a 512K block size? Does it matter?

@Nagasakee

Depends on the filesystem you're using, SFS works best with 512 bytes anything else will slow it down, FFS can use any block size but the bigger you use the more space you waste on partial files.

Also check you have enough buffers and if using FFS check the fs_#? tools in c:.

@Nagasakee

For FFS2 a 2048 block size was the recommended setting.

Anyone found any notable improvements or features in FE ??

I have noted:

-Menu have a few differnet options
-the image preview.
-images in menus

The Shell, obviously.
UnArc has a new "open destination" button.
popupmenu.class menus now visually look similar to Intuition menus.
Some under-the-hood stuff like:
SetRPAttrs now supports the alpha channel.
BOOPSI images in menus now highlight properly

I'm sure there's lots of other "under-the-hood" stuff (I've spotted a bugfix in chooser.gadget), but difficult to tell without the SDK or a program inadvertently showing up new features...

I got a new 4 Tb HD for backing up my NAS data
This disk is mounted in a removable rack in my Win7 PC.

I formatted it to NTFS, I believe it is not MBR but the other thing (windows said it had to because of the 4 Tb size)

It is working well, so thats not a problem, I'd like to be able to read and write to it using my SAM, wich has the same removable rack installed.

Now, What do I have to do/install to read/write to it ? Should it work instantly when plugged into my SAM or do I need to create a mountlist or anything ?

Thanks in advance

Martin

Last night I wanted to change the icon colour on my A4000D OS3.9 Workbench. So I went into Fonts and then now what? How do I change the colour? Even Palette wouldn't' help. I found out I had to open up the font requester and change the colour from there. But it got me wondeirng for a while.

Yeah, well..... IMO, OS4 prefs arent the most logical....
Several prefs for how the UI looks for instance.
NOT easy to grasp for novice or new users, agin IMO

Perhaps that all will change further down the development line....

My install (X1000) didn't quite work. Everything went as in Epsilon's 2nd blog on the matter, until the point where the add for the new driver was supposed to come up. It didn't, nor did I get anything else that followed.

Perhaps this was my mistake? I emptied a System: on the SAM460 hard drive I had moved into the X1000, then moved my current 4.6.1 for X1000 (dh0:) into that space for backup (in fact I had to use that backup to get on line at all!). Had to play some tricks but finally got dh0: empty and aimed FE there. Maybe empty is not equivalent to reformatting?

I am totally unable to get on line from FE. Fortunately I can do so from this back up of plain 4.6.1. I'm hoping there might be something I can copy from this backup to FE that will get me on line from there.

The backup's screens suffer the same bloating as FE. Wherever that temporary driver ended up, it affects all boot sources.

I wonder what would (/will) happen if I start from scratch and format dh0: in the process this time? I'm not about to follow Epsilon (part 1) and put in another hard drive; it shouldn't be necessary.

@kilaueabart

Check the boot priorities of your partitions, sounds to me like you are loading kickstart from the FE partition but booting from the 4.1.6

I'm not sure I understand. I boot from 4.6.1 when I want to go on line (like now, to access Amigaworld.net). For the most part it looks like FE, except it doesn't show the icons I had hidden (FE shows everything), and the Dock is full (FE just has about five items). And Limpid clock is here in 4.6.1 and not, of course, in the new FE.

Also, 4.6.1 runs as DOpus5. FE is quite different, and so far, useless to me. I'm about to start all over from the CD. I'm hopeful that even if it messes everything else up, Ubuntu will survive -- could be my only future access to this site?

Not sure what you mean by "bloating" but the fact it effects both FE and 4.1u6 is was makes me think you are loading kickstart from FE when you bott with 4.1u6

Can you actually boot into FE ?

If so just install your backed Radeon HD driver.

@broadblues
"Bloating" means 1024x768 doesn't look good on a 1920x1280 screen. Even worse, I found out just now that for some reason 4.6.1 was running at 720x576! I'm not sure if FE is the same; it shouldn't be, but I'll check as soon as I don't need to stay on line.

Booting into FE is easier than into 4.6.1. I needn't hold down any mouse or Help buttons.

I am eager to install my backed Radeon HD driver. But I am baffled where to look for it. I only backed up 4.6.1's System partition , and I assumed that would include the driver, but if it did, why isn't it using it now? I don't see anything that looks radeonish in Devs/. The newest things in DOSDrivers are from July and September 2013, much too long ago -- I don't think I had the X1000 yet anyway. Three files in Devs/ proper are January and September 2014; no idea what they are, but...

Biggest frustration right now is I can't get on the internet from FE. 4.6.1 obviously has something FE doesn't. Just in case it's in Devs/Internet, I renamed that drawer in FE's Devs and copied 4.6.1's over. When I get this posted, I'll give FE another shot.

RadeonHD.chip file is located in Kickstart directory (which is on a root level of a partition).

That resolution means you have RadeonHD Lite driver coming with the Final Edition. After you have replaced it with your own purchased RadeonHD driver all screen modes will be back again.

@kilaueabart

You should be able boot easily into which ever OS4 version you chose. Do you see a menu entry for each OS4 volume you have? If so then that would load the Kickstart off that volume and boot the Workbench within, which is what you want to keep things simple.

With Radeon HD I'd suggest to reinstall from the orginal archive. To my knowledge this would sit in your Kickstart thus why you can't find it. It should update the version you have in FE.

Now for internet, do you have a complicated setup? Not much should have changed but I suggest setting up the connection again from scratch. If you had a DHCP setup it wouldn't be worth trying to get it working from backups. So I'd either try and set it up again in Internet Prefs or use the connection wizard.

I must check it out, a graphical Diff like BeyondCompare/WinMerge is one of the tools I miss the most on AmigaOS (AMUIDiff is too basic).
