Please developers, try to see it from a users perspective, I'm not teasing nor complaining.

Please users see it from a devs point of view too, there nothing anyone can do to track that down with at least a screen shot, and a rough idea of when it happens. Never seen anyting like you describe with odyssey so as abeta tester I need more clues to find and submit info for a bug report.

@Kicko

I received my FE this afternoon, but was very uineasy to see that it is for "AmigaOne XE/SE / MicroA1."

And seeing you say, "i would at least ordered the classic version from him to have something to play with until the x1000 comes from amigakit," makes me all the more worried.

But when I look at my order details, they just say, "1 x AmigaOS 4.1 Final Edition (AmigaONE) Status: Shipped     12/31/2014." No hint as to being machine specific, nor did I see anything to specify X1000 when I placed my order.

Am I going to have to reorder? I don't want to risk inserting the CD until I get a very important job finished, probably tomorrow.

If that is the one you were planning on using with your new X1000, then yes, you have the wrong one and need to return it for the right CD to AmigaKit. Contact their customer service by starting a ticket with their automated system and explain what happened.

I received my copy today, and it clearly has X1000 written on the CD.

Ah thanks for the hint. Will try this when I get home

It's a Radeon 6670. Hope this will be fixed soon, it seems to be a known problem judging from your answer. And as I said, it really doesn't help with development when your code crashes often and it's so easy to write code that crashes the whole system.

Thanks, Alex.

@amigadave

Now AmigaKit has six varieties of Final Edition all clearly marked. I don't see how I went wrong. It says nothing in my "order history" about which version I ordered. Too bad they didn't notice that since I bought my X1000 from them 17 months ago I've only bought things for it from them...

Annoying isn't it. It is easily turned off however.

Edit your sys:kickstart/kicklayout file and comment out the following line as shown below.

There is a strange new boot sound after the Kickstart is loaded and before the OS4 splash screen. The normal boot jingle comes later too. The new boot sound is some strange short monophonic rectangle(?) waveform melody. Why does it play? Does it signal some error? Can I turn it off? It's a bit annoying.

Strange boot sound! You mean thee original Amiga 1000 start-up boot sound!

However, you can turn it off as already explained.

Is it worth upgrading on an AmigaOne XE with its hardware quality issues? Mine is under clocked down to 600Mhz due to being unstable at its regular 800Mhz.

I did - first time I've paid for Amiga software in several years - but I haven't had time to do anything other than install it so I can't tell you that it's worth it yet.

Having said that, I bought it on impulse because it was so cheap; my A1XE hadn't been switched on for a year but I thought it was worth a look at under 30 quid.

If you still use your A1 *at all*, I'd say go for it. Failing that, wait a few weeks and I'll try to cobble a wee review together once I've had a chance to spend some time with it.

@broadblues

Hi Andy!

I got a bit further with the problem:
I commented LoadMonDrvs out in startup-sequence.
Then the system starts with boot sound an everything else.
I looked into the screenmodes and there are only the lower vga modes listed.
That's ok because of not loading the drivers.

I can now open a shell and load the drivers with the command 'LoadMonDrvs'
That goes well and system still running ok.
Now when I go back to screenmode prefs van see all modes available up to 1920x1080

If I say 'test the mode 1920x1080' the mode switches to this resolution and shows the test pic
and the dialog saying 'if mode is ok click ok to save' . But this is it
System freezes completely - cannot even move the mouse anymore nor save the mode.

But I recognized two issues: My gfx board is named Board-0. Up to update 6 it was always named Radeon 9200 SE.
Second is in devs/montitors. I only can see a Monitor named NONE with almost anything disabled in the information tab. I tried to do auto-reconize monitor but this didn't help.

Have you any further ideas!

Thanx so much!

Andi

@Arnie

If you have and XE and it only runs at 600MHz then something is wrong with it. 600Mhz is the speed for the SE developers board,

I'd seriously look at making sure of a few things. Like the PSU has enough power, mine was unstable until I hooked a 550W PSU to it. Just a regular model, no fancy pants. I also got some CL3, ECC, registered RAM with whatever other acronyms the A1 needs. And I made sure the FSB switches were set to the proper multiplier for the memory speed (133Mhz) and for my G3 (800Mhz.)

@fastbit66

If you need to modify a fresh install something is going wrong. Are you booting the FE Kickstart? Do you have any other OS4 volumes on your machine?

To compare with my Update 6 system returns this from Version:
Kickstart 53.58, Workbench 53.11

Your version should be greater. Can't quote exact figures ATM.

AMIStart ? I think you mean WBstartup

Sounds like something in WBstartup is crashing.

Start without startup-sequance,

Run SYS:prefs/WBStartup and disable everything, save and reboot.

If that starts readd items one by one til you find the culprit.

Or just boot with the left shift key held down to disable wbstartup.

Board-0 is normal, the naming scheme was altered for FE.

I suggest you rename NONE to R9200SE or whatever it used to be called and set the tooltypes to:

CMPLENGTH=14
BOARDNAME=Radeon 9200 SE
DDCMODE=60Hz
DISABLEFAKENATIVE=Yes
INTERRUPT=Yes

@Severin

Hey !!
Thanx a lot Severin!
I did the things you suggested.
And I saw that in Storage/Montors the was another Monitor called NONE.
I renamed it too to Radeon 9200 and set the tooltypes like you have mentioned.
Don't know If this is necessary - I mean to create that second monitor in Storage but now
I can set the resolution up to 1920x1080 with RGB16 colors. YEAH !!!
And everything works!
But with update 6 I could evenh use the ARGB32 Color - that's the only mode which still freezes.
Maybe some of the mode frequency bounderies to small?

BUT HEY _THANX A LOT SO FAR !!!!
