To anyone saying "this is not a filemanager, so no rename or delete!" - you are aware that there is both rename and delete in the menus of any ASL filerequester, right? :)

Of course I'm aware, ASL has ALWAYS had those functions, they are part of the job it was designed to do.

I stll believe that for data security a 'viewer' should never have the power to delete or rename a file in any way. If you want to do it via ASL that's your choice and your fault of you mess up. If you want to delete, rename, move, copy files it's better to use a filemanager. I believe in using small dedicated programs rather than bloated mega apps that try to do everything the developers can think of and add weird user requested functions that only the user who asked for it would ever want...

Other's like your iff anim colour glitch is probably down to the datatype itself or the classes used to display the gui, Multiviewer does not play anims itself, the datatype does it. basically what gets displayed in the tab (except static images) is down to the datatype not multiviewer.

And finally... SimpleHTML? To read a document containing html5 and css? Really?

Just compared to how MultiView does handle those files.

I think I've found a reproducible system freeze with Multiviewer. Here are the steps to reproduce the freeze:

Double-click the Multiviewer icon to open an ASL file requester.
Select several JPEG files in the requester and select OK.
When the Multiviewer GUI opens, select the "Project/New Tab" menu item.

My system freezes completely; including the clock.

Can anyone else reproduce this freeze??

@Xenic

Loaded a lot of JPEG files by ASL requester with or without "Scan directory" option, no freeze, no problem when "Project/New tab".

@Xenic

I just tried with about 30 image files selected in the ASL and then selected new tab and had no freeze. I will keep trying to see if I can reproduce it.

Here is the first:

Using the simplehtml datatype, just installed from os4depot. Open Multiviewer.html with MultiviewerNG. There is no way to scroll the formatted document. The links are working.
After trying to resize the window, it locks the pointer.

This is bug in simplhtml.datatype I think , GetAttrs DTA_TopVert et al do not respond with valid data, all other datatypes objects I tested do.

Multiview with the same file works correctly.

MultiViewer uses a different scroll tecnique to allow more flexible scrolling, middle mouse button dragging etc.

The second thing what I found in the first 10 minutes:

- Open this IFF anim:
car.iff

- slide to a frame greater then the first

- press F8 to relocate the toolbar

The background colour of the frame image is changes.
After playing or switching to other frame, it is corrected.

Animations are passed straight through to the datatype.

They no completely useless as it would help to verify which type of crasj it was.

What machine are you running?

Note that the unsuccessful opening still makes an empty tab for the file. Has it got any reason?

How did you open it? Double click on WB , CLI , drag and drop ? Which tooltypes in action (WINDOW ? REQUESTER?)

I can accept that there is buggy datatypes, just compared what I can see in our rusty old Multiview.

Apart from the simplehtml 'bug' why not? The css is stictly for cosmetics, the docs itself is simply structured, and any complient html viewer will silently ignore the high evel tags like NAV and SECTION if it doesn't recognise them, and in anycase they are structural tags not layout related, so even a HTML5 browser only uses them for layout via the css style sheet.

No freeze here, if you can get anything on serial I'd be interesetd to see it.

I have fixed one bug related to tabs, it's possibly related but hard to say without serial log.

I booted from the OS4.1FE install CD and figured out what system difference affects whether Multiviewer freezes. I'm using 16 bit screeens (1280x1024x16) system-wide. If I change Workbench to a 32 bit screen the Multiviewer freeze doesn't occur.

If I boot with my normal 16 bit screens, Multiview will freeze if I try to add a tab while an image (jpeg, png, ilbm) is selected in the filelister. I think you will be able to reproduce the freeze if you open Multiviewer on a 16 bit screen and try adding a tab with an image selected in the filelister and displayed in the current tab.

Thanks for that extra info, tried that (16bit wbscreen) on my X1k and still no crash, but something to investigate further....

This isn't Multiview but i've never used MultiView for other than reading AmigaGuide files. And there are tons of much better image viewing software for Commodore Amiga computers on Aminet, however not sure if they work in Hyperion AmigaOS 4 without having to use an emulator like E-UAE...

Peg2. OS4.1FE

Opened it after the gui opened. Drag and drop, or open from the toolbar, or add to the file lister.
Default tooltypes except the nocaching.

That's interesting the crash that's fixed by NOCACHING has only been seen predictably on a SAM 460 so far. It's not MultiViewer that crashes but the file handle process for the DTST_MEMORY src method.

Okay, well as I explained earlier in the thread, there is no way to know if you have class to display agiven datatype, (binary.datatype for executables) if you don't want them displayed at all then set up the filter settings to display object groups you do want.

But if I start MultiViewer and select an executable file in the asl requester it pops up the
message: "Unknown data type..." and MultiViewer quits. So it knows that can't display the content.

Let's see this situation:

Open a simple text file.
Try to select all lines by mouse. It does not stops at the last line, scrolls the text out of the page.

I think it would be better if the scrolling would stop if the last line is at the bottom of the page
or the page is larger than the content.

"That's interesting the crash that's fixed by NOCACHING has only been seen predictably on a SAM 460 so far."

On X1000, too, I had a lot of crash until that I use NOCACHING tooltype.

I just sent you by mail 2 littles pictures that are well displayed on different picture viewers but not in MV without NOCACHING.

Datatype.library DSI is skippable, after all works well.

What is the goal of "NOCACHING" tooltype ?
According to the doc "Cacheing is required if the editor feature is used" but even with NOCACHING, I'm able to edit text in NotePad, Pictures in FastView...

thx
