@Drewlio77

Are you using a DVI, DVI w/VGA adapter or HDMI cable?

This is the card I bought for my SAM460ex on Amazon.com:

Radeon 7750 GDDR5

It is the same Visiontek Model number as yours, 500549. My PSU is 230W and everything runs great.

@AlexC

I posted before details of what I have done and tried so far, but for the sake of clarity, here we go again:

1. Updated radeonhd.chip 1.7 to 2.10
2. Updated UBoot to UBoot 2015
3. Tried VisionTek card with both, HDMI and DVI cables. No signal...this means nothing going to the monitor. Monitor can't detect any signal.
4. Checked multiple times that gfx card is well seated. Fan built in on card works fine.
5. Changed settings in UBoot > Video Settings > x86 BIO emulator from Fast to Medium and to Slow, while trying the VisionTek card, and nothing...nada...zip

I don't have a spare PSU to try. I was thinking to buy a new one, to replace my 350W PSU, but other posts in this threads say it'd make no difference, since the card is not that power hungry. I'm only powering the mobo, gfx card, 2 fans, 1 x SATA HDD and 1 CD/DVD unit. That's it.

The only thing I haven't tried yet is to use the DVI port with a VGA adapter and use the VGA port of my monitor. I need to buy today a male and male VGA cable, to use with my DVI adapter.

Since I'm running out of options I can only assume that my SAM460EX is allergic to the VisionTek card that I got. I will probable return it for a refund and seat and wait until another make and model (also low profile) surfaces somewhere here in the U.S. I haven't had any success finding one of the cards listed in Hans's compatibility list, available here through Amazon, eBay, Newegg, TigerDirect, etc.

If someone reading this thread spots one that has been tested with a SAM460ex, please send me a PM with link. Thank you.

Are you getting no signal when turning on the SAM or once booting into OS4?

In any case I'd suggest turning it on and leaving it alone for a few minutes then check the heatsink to see if it's cold or warm as that would at least give a hint whether the GPU is running or not.

Check that the card really is seated properly. It doesn't take much to miss some contacts. Sometimes the case prevents the brackets from going down far enough and the motherboard needs to be raised.

Make sure you have the latest version of U-Boot for the SAM in case some older version has issues with the newer Radeon chipsets.

If you can, try connecting a serial terminal at 115200 bauds 8,N,1 to see/capture some serial output. Both U-Boot and the RadeonHD driver should print something when they initialize the gfx card.

The recommended Wattage for the PSU assumes that you have an x86 motherboard which draws a lot of Watts, so you should be fine with a small PSU.
However, it's possible that your PSU isn't supplying enough Watts on the rail which feeds the PCIe slot, so it's worth borrowing a big PSU to rule that out.

That's all I've got ATM.

I think it's unlikely to work if you aren't getting output from the DVI port.

If you case is large enough you could do what other users have done and use a flexi PCIE riser card to relocate a dual slot card to the bottom of the case.

@Rob

I'd love to stick to a single slot card, since buying a double slot, first is more expensive, and secondly I'd have to buy a bigger PSU to power that beast. In the U.S. that is about a US$300 project.

I'm again scouting the web to see if I can find another single slot card in the list of tested ones.

I'm wondering if this would be a good candidate?

UPDATE:

After trying all the possible solutions suggested in different forums, and since none of them fixed the problem, and also following some of the latest advice, I went ahead and I called Newegg (store from where I bought the card) and ordered a replacement.

Shipment will be expedited, so hopefully this weekend I will be unveiling more of this mystery.

I'm hoping that this card I got first, was just a black sheep inf the batch where it came from, and that the new one will work just fine.

Fingers crossed.

Alas it only has a single braket, but maybe the heatsink+fun are too wide that clashes with you PCI SII controller.

Just check dimensions. one of them it should be (W x H x L) just/less than 1 inch (2.5cm) aprox.

I am confident the new card will resolve your issue. Your setup is pretty much the same as mine.

RELATED QUESTION:

While I'm waiting for the delivery of the replacement VisionTek HD 7750 GDDR5 gfx card, I would like to know if there is a way to verify that the driver(s) in Southern Islands were properly installed.

The installation in my case was "very short," taking only seconds, if not just a second. I received a message saying that installation was completed.

Open a shell and type SYS:Libs/Warp3D/HWdrivers and press enter then type dir and there should be a file called W3D_SI.library.

yep, your new card is exactly 14mm wider than my card (34mm).. my card is 20mm.

and using 4 port sata card. and i have only about 3mm free space between the cards.

so just wondering if you planing to use pci port?

for it is this card here right?

Gpu card

i have searched everywhere for a card for you but it seems it isn't available anywhere

Thank you for looking into this.

Yes, it seems like all low profile HD cards are gone. Club 3D for instance is only sold in Europe, and I found 2 companies in Germany and 1 in the UK, which have them in stock, but they don't ship to the U.S.

The only one available in the U.S. is VisionTek, so I hope the replacement I will get this weekend works this time.

Even that would not do, since it is not low profile. That is what makes WeiXing3D and my choices slim. It has to be a single slot card and low profile.

would a bigger case help or Is a bigger case "out of the question"

Maybe a case would be less expensive then several video cards?

@SACC-dude

Luckily I have a functioning VisionTek 7750 (low profile and single slot). If I went to a full size case that would solve the low profile requirement, but unless I get a PCI riser card or cable, I still need a single slot GPU due to the fact my sii3114 is right beside the PCI-e x4 slot.

@Drewlio77

Yeah, it's not only a bigger case, but the space between the slots on the mobo.

Of course a bigger case, with a riser and extension cable would work, but it's also a significant bigger investment too.

I figure a bigger gfx card would also call for a bigger PSU.

In short. everything gets bigger.
