Xeon E5 with Quad 980Ti using GPU compute takes over 20 seconds so your system must be powered by magic.

Scene -> Render. There select CPU as device.

"@guillaume
i think you need some tricks for better glx performances there ... look like more an old radeon card. If you need i can help you building better mesa"

Thank you but according to Christian (in the same thread) it seems that these values are "normally" low

I get that reading is hard but seriously.....

Change no settings
Press F12 to render
Report the time

That shouldn't be too complicated.

@tlosm

So you downloaded blenchmark which uses simpler scene than BMW27.blend which I linked. How about next time mentioning that.

@Rose

did I hear another Blender benchmark thread

ok so let's do like the other threads over at amigans and here and stick with the same version of Blender on OS4.1FE and agree on a standard scene to render.

Since this is supposed to be about Linux performance there really isn't reason to use anything older than 2.7x.

And for scene BMW27.blend is pretty much standard for benchmarking 2.7x.

You don't have to do the test to know how it compares against Linux version. Unless OS4 has got OpenCL and SMP support.

@Rose

Since we have no OpenCL and SMP(and who knows when and if we will have them), knowing how blender goes in single core on linux will give us some info about x5000 cpu real power...also if it have still debug kernel...

@Tuxedo
in single core if you need i can make a one thread test on blender.
about linux not optimized kernel...
in quake spasm i goes in my test kernel from 213fps to now 260fps and from 82 seconds of mplayer to 51... and i say on blender test from more than 3 minutes to 1:29 (in the same version)
beta kenel means this, the cpu performances are increasing.
and belive me if i say on amigaos you will have the best amigaos experience when it will be done because the 5020 have the cards to play good there too without altivec too.
i had a sam 460, an xe and probably one of the best peggy on the planet and i have the best desktop powerpc made by apple... can i judge?
for now linux experiences are good and im thinking how will be with 5040 2.2 ghz 2mb for core cache and ddr3 1600 ram?

i tried on vmware (1 core and 1 GB RAM) beta kernel and final kernel of linux mint and there no difference (in truth blender on beta kernel is sligher faster)
today afternoon i'll try ubutu 16.04 beta2

@Seiya

do you think a beta kernel about a new machine is the same as beta distro or a rc kernel??????

You rellay think rendering time with linux blender depends on how kernel is optmized?
The problem maybe is how kernel linux handles cpu.
Maybe the kernel put cpu in idle state even when you start rendering program.

It is impossibile pass from more 3 minutes to 1 minuts in blender only for kernel build..
