@Rassilon

Did you get this working with a CDRW?
I ask because I'm having exactly the same problem.. I click on "Quick Format" and nothing happens, I click on "Blank" and the drive accesses (read access, that is) for a second or so then stops. The other two are blanked out.

The drive is an MSI IDE device on unit 2 of a1ide.device. Did putting L/SmartFileSystem into L: make a difference? Haven't tried that...

@Spirantho

I didn't get it working with a CDRW no, sorry

I'm not sure quite what to make of it really, its not clear whether its my combo drive or the drivers.

All I can say is that I have finally got DVD-RW working.

@Rassilon

And what about it now?
Have you (or anybody else) managed to get it working?
I'm asking because I have the same problem: FormatCDRW enables the "format" gadget when I put a new CD-RW in my Samsung CD writer, I click it, something goes on for a while but eventually nothing happens... the CD-RW remains untouched and consequently I can't use it
Other questions: will it be possible to write directly to non re-writable CDs in future?
Has anybody managed to start MakeCD without problems (mine just crashes)?

Regards,
saimo

Well, I just blanked a CDRW with no problems (i.e. after I got the tooltypes set up properly. I'm using a Sony DRU 500A as an all purpose drive. That is, I read CDs or DVDs with it, write DVDs(under Linux) and write CDs with OS4 using MakeCD (DAO).

My Tooltypes show

ACTIVATE=1
DEVICE=si680ide.device
UNIT=3

Of course, if you don't use the SiI controller, you'll have a1ide.device.
Get your UNIT from Media Toolbox.

Now, I didn't use format or quick format, just Blank.

The image file is almost written, and when It's done, I'll do the burn. It reads the blank oka, since I just did an update and it didn't complain. It's writing now and predicts another 1:37 minutes to go for a total of about 2 minutes 15 seconds. It only a 79 MB backup so it's fairly quick. It's going to take more time to fix the disk than to burn it.

@dimmck

I recently started having problems with writing DVD-RW. I was getting invalid drive state errors, nothing could solve them. It was the same error I got with a CDRW.

Useful bit of information here - Both has been previously used and blanked using FormatCDRW.

I decided to blank the CDRW using the 'thorough' erase option in MakeCD. I then Quick formatted the CDRW with FormatCDRW, and guess what, it worked fine. I was able to copy files to it without errors!!!

Regards

Lewis
