New Radeon driver: "Oland Chip set"?

The new Radeon HD driver (included with Enhancer software upgrade) is reported to suppoort now "Oland chip set"? What does this mean...? At least HIS does not use these mysterious code names on their www-pages, so how to know which of their models are supported by the new driver?

Regards,

Gregor

@Gregor

R7 240 and R7 250 are consumer cards based on Oland.

@Gregor

I jave an R7 240 in my X100 as well as an R7770, the card cost me around 30 UKP, it only takes up one slot, it's half the length of a standard card and doesn't require any additional power connection.

Spec wise it's a bit slower than the R7770 but in actual use it's difficult to notice any difference in speed.

This is mine:

You can also get half height models for slim cases:

Good news. I guess the next step is support for the M300-series. (Trying not to sound too demanding).

@Niolator

Hopefully there will be enough supply of currently supported cards that they can hold off further support until the Vega architecture is shipping. They need to carefully manage their resources and it's better to add more features to the API than support more cards that will soon disappear from retail channels.

@Rob

Yes, maybe you're right. Vega seems to be rather far away though.

@Niolator

Assuming we can recoup most of the costs of adding Oland support in the Enhancer Software within the next few months, I have some ideas of supporting other up and coming chipsets in future updates.

@Niolator

Vega 10's plan release is Q1 2017 and it's already running Doom 2016 Vulkan and SW Battlefront's Rogue One map.

@Hammer

I read an article on a hardware site were they said it looked as Vega wouldn't be released very soon. They pointed out that RX 490 has to be released first.

Thanks Rob!-) I found a few reviews about these and some other display cards from HIS. There were clear differences in speed and an energy consumption between the models, but the speed was estimated using some PC games which are not familiar to me... So I have no idea of the real speed of them in AmigaOS environment.

Could those who are familiar with different models, please tell for what type of tasks would these be fast enough, when used with X5000:

HD 5450
R7 240
R7 250
R7 250X

BTW, do all these models work also with Amiga Linux distros?

Gregor

@Gregor

All of these cards should have Linux support.

For use with the X5000, the R7 250X is quite a bit more powerful than the R7 250, so I'd reccomend the R7 250X. It'll probably handle any graphic task OS4 needs and it'll be powerful enough to handle most Linux tasks (don't try to go overboard though, it's not THAT powerful).

@Gregor

The HD 5450 isn't supported in Warp3D or Warp3D Nova so is best avoided if you want 3D support.
