| I think its a great idea.
Its BoingBag 3??? What's in the others?
I know its a lot of work, but is there any chance of dumbing it a little down for newbies who aren't familiar with all the software and capabilities of the software, perhaps providing descripitions of what exactly all this stuff does.
Speaking for myself (lazy), I would love if it was all autoconfigured so I didn't need to think about it. I really don't want to go screwing around with config files if I can help it.
Also, as its all 68k stuff, what would I need to do to get all this stuff working on my A1000. I have Amiga Forever, but I'd love to resusitate my A1000, even if it is just for a lark.
If the install is comprehensive enough I'd like to use such a software base to begin developing Amiga software, and to be honest I haven't turned a real one on in many years.
What I see as missing is a turnkey install that gives you everything required to start developing as painlessly as possible. Perhaps you could provide it as an ISO or a single compressed file that turns your system into the ultimate system you describe.
Again, its a great idea, and at least a stop gap until we get OS4, which could be far further into the future than we all hope it is .

As it's a 3.9 boing bag you'll need at least the 3.1 roms and OS 3.9 I would imagine.
@Mobileconnect I think bluetooth would be nice even if I won't be using your bb3 as I fully intend to upgrade my 1200 with the bvision version of OS4.
Still I think it's a great idea! Good luck!

Is this even possible? Provided I could get 3.1 ROMS(Hey, I'd even settle for disks) and could get my hands on Os 3.9 what sort of Memory would I need? I think my A1000 has only got 2meg right now.
Hmmmm. The more methinks about it...The more methinks to drop the idea.
OFF TOPIC... AROS says its 3.1 compatable...Do they mean Kickstart or OS? Is there a BoingBag for AROS?_________________ Leo Nigro, CTO Commodore USA, LLC Opinions expressed are my own and not those of C= USA. Sorry, never even seen the innards of a A1000 so I have no idea if it has socketed roms.
Even if this is possible and you haven't been doing upgrades for a while you have a good deal of work ahead of you and the question is (as always) is it worth the time and money?
A lot of apps want at least an AGA chip if not a regular graphics card. I imagine you have some Zorro slots? Probably Zorro1? Leaves you with the oldest possible Amiga specific graphics cards and that 'aint top-o-the-line anymore.
Don't know of any expansion kits for the A1000 either, PCI expansions or Zorro, clock port (if you even have that?) etc.
Otherwise I think many Amiga dealers probably still have some roms left (they are still the latest roms for classic Amiga) but I'm not sure how much use it will give you without any other upgrades. _________________ Fixed A1G4XE 7455 RX933PC with fried CPU Sapphire Radeon 9100 128mb ESI Juli@ 24bit 192kHz Envy24HT Sil 680 Ultra Ata 133 E-ide SeaGate Barracuda 120gb 8mb cache |

Errrr. Save my money for an A1 methinks.
Pretty sure there's no Zorro on A1000.

| @BigBen:
The A1000 and A500 had the original "Zorro I" bus and connectors. They were usable with some external add-ons like disk drives and expansion memory packs.
The A1000 runs OK with 3.1 ROMs and OS3.1, but OS3.5 and later need a 68020 CPU to run, and so can't be used on the 1000 or 500. That's what it said on the box, I don't know just what part of it needs the '020 instructions (or is it the MMU?).
The A1000 is great with its low-tech components if you just want to fiddle, but after you've hacked in new ROMs, changeover switch and the like, you still have a 1984 processor running at 7 MHz. I sold my A1000 last year with a SCSI card + 850 MB HDD + 8 MB RAM, all crammed inside the original case. I sold it for $100 with monitor and SW, to raise funds for the club.
In short, don't waste money on it. Save up for the A1 (you know you want one, you know you'll buy one).

Wow, thanks for that. Kinda had to go backwards with the URL to find http://www.innoidea.hu/subsites/amiga/developer/phpwebdev.php so I knew what it actually was that I was downloading.
I'm actually a newbie, as far as you guys are concerned, so this all seems like a crazy mess to figure out for me.
Doesn't seem to be any instructions except a short readme.
Oh well, I guess there's no hand holding when it comes to starting Amiga Software Development. Pity.
Maybe as I try and get better I'll write an idiots guide, for people like me.
