It has been almost 3 years since new AmigaWorld.net forums were launched. As can be judged from the statistics below the popularity of AmigaWorld's forums has come a long way. These are averages of the amount of forum activity per day.

25 October 2002 - 22 November 2002
=> 2.4 postings/day

22 November 2002 - 13 April 2003
=> 23.6 postings/day

13 April 2003 - 2 August 2003
=> 56.2 postings/day

2 August 2003 - 11 February 2004
=> 157.8 postings/day

11 February 2004 - 18 June 2004
=> 202.3 postings/day

18 June 2004 - 8 August 2005 (today)
=> 317.9 postings/day

The above period is a bit wide, due to a lack of data, but I believe we still see a sharp rise of forum activity, well above last year's average. Currently: Total Topics: 14025 | Total Posts: 198276 Would be interesting to compare the figures again over a few months time.

For comparison our friends over at Amiga.org are also doing nicely:

1 April 2004 - 8 August 2005 (today)
=> 206.7 postings/day (currently Total Topics: 17175 Total Posts: 274706)

@MikeB

Hi,

In your opinion how has the increased usage at AW affected the overall
responsiveness of the website? Is there a noticeable change?

Best Wishes,

@MikeB

Interesting stats. It'd be nice to see a graph of new users/month, too - and perhaps something like average posts per user per day... but that sounds complicated!

How many regularly active members are there nowadays? (i.e. people who've logged in within the last 3 months or so) - there's obviously the same names appearing all the time, but I'm noticing quite a few new and unfamiliar peeps, which is nice...

@MikeB

if the other sites say there is something wrong with this site, those numbers seem to put those opinions in dispute.

btw: keep up the great work.

There are many different aspects to take into consideration here. Server locations changed, server upgrades were done, AW today offers far more services (Quake2 server, OS4Depot, dedicated IRC Network, etc) than before, more stuff to load for the frontpage (events calendar, Classified ads, themes, etc) and so on.

But of course increased traffic does sometimes impact the general performance. However the server is able to handle quite a bit of load before this really becomes a problem.

One problem is that over time the staff deleted hundreds of inactive accounts and also removed duplicate accounts created by a few people. But here are some stats with regard to membership:

27-Apr-2003 704 members
16-Jul-2003 1064 members
4-Dec-2003 1682 members
4-Feb-2004 1901 members
1-Apr-2004 2189 members

- Later in 2004 hundreds (400+) of inactive accounts were deleted in one go.

8-Aug-2005 (today) 3672 members

With regard to pageviews and unique visits I earlier wrote a little about this here.

One of the sharpest boosts in AW membership was in March 2003, I joined then in March 2003 as well and became an admin here.

Thanks so much for the reply. I have not been here long, so a lot of this
was "news" to me.
Thank you for all the fine work that you do for us here.

With already 1273 posting in just 193 days, for this year you have surely posted more than Rudei and me combined! (6.6 comments/day! )

(Since we joined, I generated roughly 2.3 comments/day, Rudei only 0.7 comments/day)

Dont forget the Bodie Brothers, even though they have been very silent lately (vacation?), the numbers must have jumped quite a bit when they joined in

The same with Toaks, he must have posted a lot this year.

How could we? And perhaps they are just giving you a chance to catch up to their posting totals.
Hold on! Do I hear Bodie footsteps?

Hi Mike B - It could be interesting to hear which amiga related thread was the biggest in the history of AW.net - you know, how many replies?, and how many views?

Can you find this information???

For clarity I should note that the posting and topics totals does not include any comment made in reply to polls, news stories, image gallery, etc!

So that's only 1.1 postings/day on average for me.
