Sorry i have an "Alias" for mplayer in s:Shell-startup so i dont have to type/tab to the right dir etc. So instead of using ram:experimental it used the original and older mplayer that "alias" redirects to.
The problem with the crash is when using a .srt subtext file. Without the subtext it works. It fails just when the text should be used. Ofcourse like you all says the arrowkeys makes it crash too.
Here is the right output :)

As @afxgroup suggested, have you tried this file with cgx_vmem instead of cgx_vmem_scale? If the speed is faster (as indicated in post #1) perhaps it would play this file without the "system is too SLOW" message? Hmmm...The comment in post #1 probably refers to DVD playback only, so maybe not.
BTW-512x384 in itself is not a problem, even on my G3. But MPEG-4 could possibly be part of your problem as relates to speed of playback.

Just did some quick tests & it looks good. I have a video that would not scale all the way to full screen & now it does. I also like the quicker switching from window to full screen. Looking forward to the next release. _________________ Hate tends to make you look stupid... |

You mentioned this in your "news" on Wesnot, so I thought I should expand upon it here since it also applies to the experimental MPlayer.rar archive:
I had to set the "e" bit again. Just like with mencoder and an earlier version of MPlayer. I was told there was a problem with lha doing this in some cases. All I can say is that it is happening with your .rar archives as well.
With lha and lzx (a MUCH better program than lha IMO), recursive directory collection has never been a problem. Garbage in, garbage out. If the archive is constructed with the "recursive" parameter set, then either lha or lzx will decompress with the correct directory structure. If the "empty" parameter is set it always correctly archives the empty directories recursively as well.
I have only used unrar, not rar. Does rar (that you are using) use recursive, or is there maybe a bug in the version of rar that you are using?

The slowdown is not always shown. Mostly when i change between window/fullscreen to fast and often, both with scale and no scale. Try it yourselt. Doubleclick a couple of times. |

No one in this thread is having this problem. But if anyone wants to try MPlayer and is unsure of how to unpack the file: You need "unrar" from OS4depot. You can put "unrar" in c: if you like.
Open the shell & change directory to the directory where you have downloaded "mplayer_experimental.rar". Type "unrar x mplayer_experimental.rar". Using "x" preserves the directory structure. Using "e" does not.
You may then copy the entire contents of the directory "MPlayer.Experimental" and the icon for that directory anywhere you like.
In my case, I then loaded "Diskmaster" and clicked on the "mplayer" executable. Then I clicked "Protect" from the "Diskmaster" menu at center of screen. The "E" bit was not set, so I clicked on it to highlight it, and clicked on OK.
You may then copy Deniil's GUI V1.32 beta into the same directory as MPlayer and Daniel's GUI will happily find the version of MPlayer located in this directory.
If the above instructions do not work for anyone, please post back to this thread.

Yes. In my case, moving my AV window while viewing a somewhat stressful codec through the shell does the same thing. You have G4 and Altivec, so you may not be able to reproduce this.
Accurate or not, CPU_Watcher program showed me running well over 90% CPU usage (on average) when running a similar codec. Just the addition of merely moving the window to the equation promptly threw up the message string you refer to about "Your system is too slow to play this!"
MPEG-4 codec does use 24bits (at least the files I have seen so far) and is possibly as stressful as a 16bit codec that uses far more screen real estate. Just my opinion.

I have just downloaded Mplayer dirty preview #5 and tried it out on my µA1-C and A1-XE. Mplayer plays dvd's fine on the XE but appears flakey on the µA1? The audio is OK by the video jumps and only plays the odd frame. If I turn off the audio the video display is much better. I am using OS4 pre-release 3 on both machines with the same mplayer settings. Has any else had a similar problem with Mplayer and the µA1?
I have been in discussion with @FuZion who has made several useful suggestions (thanks FuZion), but I wonder if this is a problem with Mplayer and the µA1? Anyone else having similar problems with MPlayer on a µA1-C?
TrevorDick
p.s. I have the licensed version of DVplayer but can't seem to get it to play the audio when playing a DVD vob file? wonder if this is a feature of the µA1-C? Anyone else having similar problems with MPlayer on a µA1-C?
Note: I originally accidentally posted this in a software news section

| @TrevorDick Yup. Same on uA1. And I have the DVD on a si0680. I don't know if it's as bad as yours, because with sound off, the video is smooth. |

You need to activate the switch -framedrop in the GUI or if using the shell you must enter this parameter when playing a DVD on Micro A1-C. Example: MPlayer -vo cgx_vmem -ao sdl -framedrop dvd[colon]//1 Replace the word "colon" and brackets with a colon.
Please try this and report back with your results.
Also please note: We are currently testing the "experimental version" available on Andrea's website. Functionality is similar but new mode cgx_vmem_scale has been added. My post #3 in this thread shows the command line for testing the new mode with dvd on Micro.
As always, please inform me if I have mistyped my shell command line.

Thanks for the advice. I am already using the framedrop option in the MPlayer-GUI (and the forceide option) on the advice of FuZion. If I leave the framedrop unchecked the DVD video plays normally but the audio repeats in a ~2 second loop.
The attached is console window output from µA1-C with framedrop & forceide checked in the GUI. (Note: this DVD plays normally on my A1-XE).
I'll try playing with the cli command instead of the GUI, but any suggestions would be greatly received.
I'll also give the 'experimental' version a try.
Thanks
TrevorDick

Possible reasons, problems, workarounds: - Most common: broken/buggy _audio_ driver - Try -ao sdl or use the OSS emulation of ALSA. - Experiment with different values for -autosync, 30 is a good start. - Slow video output - Try a different -vo driver (-vo help for a list) or try -framedrop! - Slow CPU - Don't try to play a big DVD/DivX on a slow CPU! Try some of the lavdopts, e.g. -vfm ffmpeg -lavdopts lowres=1:fast:skiploopfilter=all. - Broken file - Try various combinations of -nobps -ni -forceidx -mc 0. - Slow media (NFS/SMB mounts, DVD, VCD etc) - Try -cache 8192. - Are you using -cache to play a non-interleaved AVI file? - Try -nocache. Read DOCS/HTML/en/video.html for tuning/speedup tips. If none of this helps you, read DOCS/HTML/en/bugreports.html.

Haven't installed the new OS4 AHI yet. Must have been announced when I was away (poor excuse I know!). I will download and install and try Mplayer again.

Quick update. AHI 6.2 was installed on A1-XE and 5.5 on µA1-C. (Confused) Anyway I have now installed AHi.device 6.2 from OSdepot and retried Mplayer.
Same result however! Boo Hoo!
