So because people don't want to pay $2000+ for hardware they won't pay for software?
I've got over $1000 in bounties that says otherwise.

A bit of perspective - we're talking thousands of pounds for this hardware. Even Pagestream only costs $99! Bounties or software can be paid for as and when you can afford it. This is a lump-sum.
(EDIT: Assuming you weren't just reporting on what he said...) Your comment has a whiff off the "if you can't find that money, you're not a true supporter" about it, which is completely cut adrift from the reality of people's lives and finances.

Exactly.
Also notice in post 199 that he set the price of X1000, along with kicking it, at $3000.00.(?) Well Yeah! The damn buck is only worth 20 cents. BUT, here was another opportunity for someone to play the 'economy' card when bashing something they have no interest in anyway.
Right now I'm using a x86_64 NOS something(?) that I picked up for under $250. I have Linux and FreeDOS on it. (Yes, FreeDOS on a 64) I use it for web, e-mail, card games, and dinking around with FreeDOS. Other then that, I have zero interest in it. Oh! but it's cheeeep! Supposedly it will run Windows. I'm not going to go out and pay as much for an OS that I paid for the hardware that may, or may not work 100%. Will the OS upgrade work? Will the next version of windows work? Will Bill give me back my money if it does not work? (ha-ha-ha-ha-ha) Maybe I should pick up a copy from e-bay?
I will not spend 10 minutes trying to do any development work, hardware tinkering, or anything else that would fit in the computer enthusiast category on this here today, gone tomorrow, piece of e-bay fodder.
I know what I want. I know what my money is worth. If in the clouded future the buck goes even lower in value then I will have gotten a bargain. I'm sure nobody will congratulate me on my financial prowess. However, if the value of the dollar goes way up then I'm also sure there will be those pointing fingers and laughing 'You got screwed' without taking into consideration the value of what I used in the trade, at the time.
Will I pay ANY price for what I want? NO. After all I need to pay for all the necessary health, beauty, youth, and happiness pills the drug companies are pushing on TV if I want to maintain my present manly figure with a healthy ,,,er,,, aaaah,,,'business' I can be proud of. ********************* Ah, the economy card.

| So, I am back again! Trying to sort through the (mis)information here. Is there a next-gen Amiga platform available for purchase? What is the status of AOS4?

AmigaOS4 is still in development and up to revision 4.1.6
http://www.amigaos.net
As far as readily available hardware you can purchase new from 2 sources.
http://acube-systems.biz
and
http://www.a-eon.com
Complete system builds of new machines are purchasable from vendors like.
http://amigakit.leamancomputing.com
You can also purchase used computer systems for AmigaOS4 like used Pegasos2 machines and AmigaOne SE and XE systems and some Sam 440 machines.
In the future A-eon are releasing a new motherboard compatible with AmigaOS called the Cyrus plus._________________ Amiga A1200T - TF1260 - R9200 - Indivision AGA MK3 Amiga A500 - PiStorm EMU68 Pegasos 2 G4 - AmigaOS 4.1 FE / MorphOS 3.16 |

You give your money to your local Amiga dealer. :) Probably AmigaKit or Acube.
OS4 is very much alive (I'm typing on it now :) ), although progress has been slow recently - probably because of the complexity involved in 4.2; Hyperion don't give out details on their progress until it's actually ready.
You can get a NextGen Amiga - The X1000 is available now and is in stock, I believe, but is very pricey as it's using the fastest CPU (and therefore most expensive) they could find. You can also get a AmigaOne 500 for 843 Euros + taxes on Acube's website.

A1222 is currently under beta test. You may apply as beta tester, but then, things are certainly not stable enough to consider the product ready for market.
You have the x5000 that is available, but the budget would be high. And many Sam motherboard, cout the price by two based on x5000

Seriously? You have been trying to purchase AmigaOne hardware since 2006 when it was new and still haven't found a new OS4 machine to buy? Are you kidding me? |

As do I. But I'm getting better. When something seems out of whack I look for the date now if I don't see I have posted first. |

Some advices for collectors of rare hardware:
1. Buy when it's available.
2. Don't wait for a miraculous price drop.
3. Don't wait for a promised wonder hardware when something else is available.

Okay, this must be a joke on your part, after all these years. If you were ever serious about buying a NG Amiga(Like) system, you could have done so years ago.
What is your excuse for not doing so? Still waiting for a price drop, or for something better to come along? As far as price to performance ratio goes, you can't beat AROS for x86/x64. If you want something that can run "some" native Amiga software without an emulator, then MorphOS on used Apple PPC Mac hardware is the next best price to performance ratio choice. Anything from sub 1GHz G4 PowerMac's, up to the Dual 2.7GHz G5 PowerMac desktop models, and several G4 Laptop iBook and PowerBook models can be used.
As for AmigaOS4.x, you can currently purchase the dual core version of the X5000, and should be able to get an A1222, maybe some time later this year, when the porting of AmigaOS4.1 to the Tabor/A1222 is completed and beta testing concluded.
There have never been so many hardware choices for running one of the NG Amiga(Like) OSes, as there are today, so what are you waiting for? Or are you just pulling our collective leg, and you don't really have any intention to purchase and use any of the NG Amiga(Like) OSes? |
