Looking at this thread, I'm thinking there might be a way to incorporate these existing tools into AmigaNetCenter, if nothing else, as a stop gap measure until something more modern and substantial can be supplied. I have not been successful at network printing simply because the installation and documentation is so convoluted and scattered. It pains me that the operating system which essentially invented plug n play is reduced to manual configuration and installations and trial and error.

When I try to print to a printer attached to a linux machine using lpr.device i get an error message that there was a failure to receive an acknowledgment (negative acknowledgment). I think the print server is looking for a user. Don't know how to implement user on Roadshow.

Thats exactly what I am getting also, has anyone a solution ?
I've been trying to get this to work for a few days now. It all works on the PC side, printing a testprint to the LPR printer redirects through ghostscript and prints the postscript file fine.
What am I doing wrong ?

Well I don't know what I did, but it suddenly started working, I have no idea what I did different, I deleted the PC printer driver and re-created it and now it works.
A hint for Finalwriter, select print to a PostScript file, and when asked for a filename, type PRT: and Click OK. trying to print using Postscript Printer askes me to find PAR: which does not exist.

Has anybody tried printing with Sam460 ? Since there is no parallel.device for Sam460 should I use usbprinter.device ?
I have a CanonLBP5000 shared via MacOSX10.4. _________________ AmigaOS4 Beta-Tester ---------------------------------- Amiga X5000 8GB Radeon RX 560 Amiga A1222 2GB Radeon RX 550 Sam 460 2GB RadeonRX 550 |

| @SinanG yes if you connect the printer via USB, no if the printer it's a Lan printer Last edited by pvanni on 10-Dec-2011 at 02:18 PM.

| @sam-owners.
Since I have a Sam440 using lpr.device is not possible for printing as the Sam does not have a parallel device. However I can send my print jobs to my Linux machine easily using the BlackWidow HTTP web server from Peter Gordon. It can be found on OS4Depot > Network > Server > Http.
It is small, easy to install, and it works.
It is an Http server that allows file transfers from my Sam using a WebBrowser on any other computer on my network.
The trick to getting it up and running is to not over think it. The only time I fire it up is to move some files from the Sam and do not worry about security issues during that short time.
I have added or changed a few instructions for those that may need them, but the basic setup is from Peter Gordon. Thanks Pete.
A. Make a drawer on a partition and name it BW. (caps) Try to choose a partition other than System: or Work:
B. Download blackwidow.lha from OS4Depot. Unarc the file to BW.
C. Make a drawer inside the BW drawer and name it serv. Or server or whatever you want. This is the drawer that will be available to your network. Keep it simple and distinct.
D. Put a text file in the BW/serv drawer. One that ends with the .txt extension. You can copy (for example) the usb.log file from RAM:T and Rename the .log to .txt .
(Pete's instructions with some *** notes.)
1) Copy the blackwidow directory to your hard disk. *** Done in steps A & B. 2) Run the preferences program *** In the BW drawer. 3) Click the "Servers" tab 4) Click on "New" 5) Click on "Properties" 6) Set the port you want this server to listen on. ***I used port 9100. *** Leave Name as Unnamed. Don't over think it. 7) Click "Virtual Hosts" 8) Highlight "#?" 9) Click "Properties" 10) Highlight "/" 11) Click "Properties" 12) Put the local directory you wish to serve pages from into "Actual Path" *** I have a Partition named Docs. So path is Docs:BW/serv 13) Click OK in all the sub-windows to close them 14) Click "Save" 15) Run the "bw" daemon executable *** Open a shell. I type, Docs:BW/bw 16) Launch a web browser, and put "http://localhost:9100/" into the address bar. If you changed the port from 80, put "http://localhost:port/", e.g. "http://localhost:8080/" if you chose 8080. *** This is on your Amiga. You should see the .txt file listed that you put into the 'serv' drawer. 17) If step 16 worked then open a browser on another computer and go to your amiga using http:// + it's URL number : port number. for example "http://192.168.2.15:9100/ ". 18) Ctrl+c in the Shell will shutdown the BlackWidow server.
Problems? Post them.

I haven't tried printing from my Sam, but I imagine I'd do it the same way as I do on my A1; use lpr and a networked printer.
