@evilrich, ssolie

Hey I don't code anything (yet) but I really appriciate your work anyway.

Thanks very much for supporting OS4.

When I start coding, again, for OS4 I will probably use both of yours stuff and
only then will I be able to actually tell if somethings wrong or if I'm having trouble
with it.

I know ssolie from alot of releases of development utils/libs/stuff but evilrich
I must say I know for E-UAE only. Oh yes and that X-windows sever thingy I
read about in a thread.

SDL has a reputation for being just that little bit sluggish, can you comment if there is any improvements on the horizon or whether the announced upgraded CPUs will assist in this regard. Many users will probably be oblivious as to exactly what SDL is. Keep up the great work.

The usual solution for fixing the sluggishness of SDL on Windows is using OpenGL for 2d as well as 3d graphics. When we get Mesa, we'll likely get other OpenGL-based utilities such as hxRender to do the graphics plotting with.

sorry man, but how on earth can you say there seem to be little interest in SDL for AOS4?

Because, as I said, I get very little feedback.

os4depot is bursting with SDL ports, and new ports are constantly compiled, latest SDL upload to the depot was today.

How am I supposed to know that? Download every new release on OS4 depot and try to guess whether they use SDL or not?

So OS4 depot is 'bursting with SDL ports'? Are you telling me that all those developers using the OS4.0 port of SDL believe that it is perfect? If this is so, then surely it doesn't require any further development anyway.

Cheers,
Rich

Ooops. How could I possibly have forgot you.

BTW, I never got a response to the reply I sent you for the last problem you asked me about. Did you get it?

I guess that is where it is a little hard for non-coders, when problems do arise we may not know precisely what they are linked to or assume that we are using an earlier implmentation version etc. I'll try and feedback (I did with UAE) where I can and when I understand what is happening but like many I don't want to waste your time.

As I said above, there were some sub-optimal builds shipped with a couple of the recent AmigaOS SDK releases. I know of no performance issues with the current version.

This is where the shared library version would really help, no need to recompile all the software which has the slower version statically linked.

Thanks for all your work. I haven't personally written or ported anything that uses SDL, but I do use software that uses it, so it certainly is in use and a lot of the ports (and probably some original stuff too) on OS4Depot wouldn't exist without it.

Well, I also have to give you thanks for your excellent port of SDL, it works very nicely -and is quite fast-

I hope you can finish the dynamic library because it will be very nice to be able to update SDL without recompiling the game/app.

I don't know if it may be possible to join the code from Gabrielle Greco (AmigaOS3), Itix&Company (PowerSDL from MorphOS) and make a unique library for the 3 systems (who knows, maybe AROS too). That way we would avoid reinventing the wheel.

Itix is very active updating his PowerSDL and I'm sure both of you could save some efforts if you worked together using the same code tree.

Although I haven't used the SDL in OS4 I very much appreciate that it is there,
whether using one of the many SDL games on OS4 Depot, SDL Basic, or the builds
of E-UAE which used SDL.

Keep up the good work (and I hope you got my donation not so long ago).

Cheers,
Bean.

P.S. I'd love to see the dynamically linked version of SDL.

No comments means it's working fine. What would OS4Depot.net be without SDL for AmigaOS4 ??

Please don't stop developing it. Will make a dontation shortly.

Thanks Rich. I didn't know you were involved with SDL. Makes sense, considering there is an SDL version of E-UAE.

This makes me very happy, because I use E-UAE for my older software.

E-UAE came in very handy recently when I installed TVPaint on my MicroA1-C. Using E-UAE, and my emulated A2000, I was able to build the 3 "floppies" required for the installation (I built them as adf files), and do the actual install to my hard drive. Later, I simply moved the resulting drawer (program, accessaries and documentation) into my normal OS4 environment. TVPaint works like a charm so far under OS4.

Please bring it on.

See http://www.rcdrummond.net/uae/.

This an iterim release (0.8.29-WIP1), but provides better performance, bug-fixes and some new features (e.g. state-saving).

Trying running in 16-bit, full-screen, with gfx_linemode=scanlines to see the speed benefits.

Enjoy.

Cheers,
Rich
