OK, reworded my poll, in an attempt to get it past the censors this time (*1)

Just to make it explicit (although *I* thought it was obvious) - I am interested in how Amigans see the future at the moment, what with the current doom & gloom.

(*1 - that's a joke. I have just read the part of Richard Feynman's biography where the scientist at Los Alamos have trouble with their censors. Perhaps even funnier is the fact that the censors didn't like their censorship being mentioned, and so censored any mention of themselves!)

@ChrisH

I wonder why people who believe that there will never be hardware and that OS4 will never be released come to this site. Maybe, they could make better use of their time over at Slashdot.org trying to convince those folks to give up on Linux and just use Windows.

@ChrisH

I believe we'll see hardware around October-November. So I chose the optimistic
sep-oct choice.

@ChrisH

I'm not in a position to decide when hardware will be available therefore I won't be voting to say when it will be. This poll seems completely pointless to me, probably no one who's voting 'knows' when hardware will be available.

Is it fun to look at other peoples guesses? I don't know.. not for me at least.

If you could tell which vote comes from Troika and/or ACK then it may be more interesting

It's not that I don't want AOS4 to have hardware to run on, or that I want to convince anybody to give up on AOS4. But I voted "Never" because the most logical solution to me -- AOS4 on Pegasos/Efika, etc. -- apparently isn't in the cards for "political" or personal reasons. Maybe some outfit other than Genesi can manage to produce the hardware and get Amiga, Inc.'s blessings, but as time goes on that seems less and less likely.

I wonder how far is BBRV's quest to get his Amiga back.

I answered, but then censored myself, sorry!

Actually...dunno. The problem is the utter lack of known valid information in the public realm, so we're stuck with much conjecture, down to even if 'Troika' or 'ACK' will be able to produce anything even were they ready to, due to licensing issues. No one knows, and I go back and forth myself.

I'd say that the upcoming months are going to hit a critical mass, after which we either have hardware, or many simply 'turn out the lights.' Sadly, even good intentions don't result in hardware being available, but I hope we'll see something at one of the upcoming shows yet..hopefully WITH OS4 running on it, AND a confirmed license. I'm unsure I even care what it is any more regarding specs, I just want to see _something_ made available.

@ChrisH

I hope to see new HW for BB4 so I voted Sept-Oct 2006...
Though I tend to believe there will be HW Announcement by Sept-Oct 2006 with tangible proof (Maybe even a prototype ?)... And New HW could appear by Christmas 2006 !

"His Amiga"? Bill's? I don't know. Was it sent off for repairs or something?

But I guess you're talking about something else. BBRV's ventures at this site, etc. were about trying to build momentum at power.org, not about getting control of Amiga, from what they told me. Certainly there's significantly less to "Amiga" in every way than there was several years ago when BBRV talked big about getting control.

But the negative reaction or indifference of the Amiga companies and people about joining the PowerPC industry mainstream -- such as it is -- probably finally convinced BBRV that this shrinking community really would rather fail in solitude than work together with others in the industry for some kind of survival. And if Amiga, Inc. would rather AOS4 fail than agree to it running on the Pegasos, despite the polls that show what end-users would like, that's their choice.

Oh, and in reply to a PM I just got from another person about the question of why people Iike me come to this site, I've been participating in discussions here for quite a long time, since back when we had those big arguments about companies and products, when it seemed important for some reason, and was kinda fun in a twisted way. Now, even though it seems to me the writing is on the wall as far as Amiga hardware goes -- Alan Redhouse's 20 Qs and As were probably the eulogy -- I still find some interesting reading here. I hope people realize that the old wars are over, which makes questions like "why do you come here" rather pointless.

IMO, a few of those consider the ONLY HW to be ex-86... Meaning that if a new HW appears based on Cell, PPC, etc... but not ex-86, they will not consider it and claim that it's not an AMIGA as it's not The Amiga They would like !

That's only what you made up of it. But thanks for bringing the x86-discussion up again, at least you can't complain about it afterwards.

Just because I have, after too many false starts to mention, lost almost all faith that new hardware will appear, it doesn't mean I don't still *hope* to see some, nor that I won't buy it if it does appear.

I don't think scotland have any chance of qualifying for the next World Cup but I'll still go along and cheer them on, in the vain hope that they might.
