I don't have the majority of users noticed, but OS4 can now download and play the video files present in sites like, for example, www.youtube.com

Thanks to a clever script work by Rhino and Andrea Palmate's MPlayer we can now access these files on AWeb and, soon, on IBrowse, too.
I thought I'd say this because I came upon this almost by chance and it's a great development.

It brought back that Amiga feeling, the joy of getting something to work that is not supposed to. ;)

Thanks Rhino and AFXGroup! ;)

Thanks for the kind words, I'm glad you like the script.

If anyone is interested, they can download the script from my projects page:

http://www.seal-amiga.co.uk/robert/amipodder/projects.html#flayer

It's currently a beta, when I'm happy its working well and I've added a couple more features I'll make a proper announcment and upload it to OS 4 Deopt and Aminet.

It brought a smile to my face when it worked for the first time! This shows off how ARexx is one of tne of the great features of the Amiga in the way it allows existing programs to be enhanced in ways the original developers never envisaged.

Thanks again,

Robert

You bet I like it. I thought getting that to work on OS4 would be impossible without a browser upgrade!

It brought a smile here, too. I was tired of my friends sending me suposedly awesome videos and then having to admit I couldn't view them. I got more torched about this than any missing productivity software, which about shows the average Windows needs these days... ;)

@Toaks

from the readme, i guess this program is based on my original script downloading itself the web page (using TCP:) so as to extract the real .flv url. It could also have downloaded the video file itself but the point was essentially to retrieve the url, so i just let wget download it.

Anyway, feel free to do whatever you want with it.

Ah, I see I missed that from the ReadMe, sorry about that, I'll fix it for the next release.

Looking at your screenshot:

You have ":flv" in the second part of the MIME Type, it should just be flv without the colon.

The "Extensions" field should be set to "flv". (That is also missing from the docs I notice)

I would double check you definitely have the right path for MPlayer. Is the drive really called just "C:" and is the directory called "MPlayerX", these seemed a bit odd to me but of course could well be correct!

Donkies yonks ago someone told me to install it in C: cant remember why. When I updated it to experimental I just renamed the old one to .BAK

the colon is there because it was in your destructions after the /slash !!
