The 68k software that uses custom chips will work more or less ok?
I have in mind whdload or 68k/aga demos

@doraemon

Forget WHDload under OS4. The custom chips can be accessed but the 68k is turned off completely. I doubt WHDLoad will work with the Petunia 68k emulation.

15. If WinUAE gets a PPC cpu emulation option will it be "legal" to buy and run a copy of AmigaOS4 Classic on emulation?
- unsure this is a question for Hyperion or existing laws, not classic OS4 specific.

hmmm. Would PPC emulation actually be NEEDED as such if UAE were running on a Mac or a SAM, on top of a very stripped-down linux, for example?

In theory, you would need a Mac or a SAM which has a 60xx PPC CPU and a CSPPC or BPPC
board emulated in WinUAE, plus Windows for this CPU to be able to run WinUAE.
Good luck

Edit:
Just take your already existing UAE which emulates A4k plus CSPPC and is
able to run the existing MorphOS, and add another boot partition for OS4.
What, your UAE cant run MorphOS? Then why should it run OS4Classic?
Your UAE cant run the A1 Linux? Then why should it run OS4Final?

@TetiSoft

What are you talking about? You wouldn't need Windows at all (which is lucky because it doesn't run on a Sam or Mac), and if UAE is running on a PPC you only need to emulate the 68k. The CSPPC or BPPC emulation is theoretically just a matter of address translation within UAE. PowerUP or WarpUP on the emulated OS should not see any difference. If that works then OS4 should also work.

Edit to reflect your edit: You haven't read the question right. The previous posters were asking if/how OS4 would run on an emulation that has PPC emulation (eg from PearPC) or real PPC hardware (eg Mac or Sam).

About the question which was asked in the first mail in this thread?

The original question was about WinUAE, not UAE.
Yes, IMHO you want to emulate the 68k to be able to run your legal kickstart
which loads OS4 which switches the 68k off again and emulates it itself...

You mean nobody is waiting for MorphOS on a fast PPC CPU because everybody
can already run the existing version in UAE? But why should then MorphOS
ever be released for sale as a commercial product?

What about buying OS4 first before speculating how to crack it?

The original question was about WinUAE, but you quoted a question about UAE on a PPC processor.

I never mentioned MorphOS, I think you should stop sniffing that glue son.

I will be buying it, and I have no intention of cracking anything. It's obvious that English is not your first language. Remember that before you start making unfounded accusations.

Yes, english is not my native language.

When Bill Gates announces the next version of Windows, who will
ask him if its legal to run it inside a PC emulator on a PowerMac?
Who will ask him how to change this PC emulator to run this Windows?
Who will complain when he complains that he doesnt like discussions
about running his Windows inside emulators?

Bad analogy, Gates bought up VirtualPC and now gives it away for free. The MS site has lots of documents related to running virtual Windows, desktop and server.

Either way, the discussion that was going on was about increasing the possibility of running OS4, which means increased sales. That's good for users, developers and retailers.

Do you think limiting it to Phase5 hardware will stop piracy? Dream on pal.

Besides, who died and left you in charge? It's not up to you to decide who is a potential pirate. Take your unwelcome and ill informed opinions elsewhere.

Hey, don't blame me, I was chatting nicely, answering questions for those that wanted answers until some halfwit came in here making baseless accusations. I'm not a Christian, I don't turn the cheek. I hit back twice as hard.

@stokey

I am not asking you to turn the other cheek. I am simply asking for well-thought out, mature, adult responses which INCLUDE refraining from calling people names, questioning people's parentage, remarking on which side a person dresses... and the like.

IF you are unable to behave in this manner, a manner we expect everyone to adhere to, then I will have no other choice but to limit you or your remarks.

You may choose to consider this a polite warning.
Thank you.

So delete all posts from #25 onwards, where he made the remark "What about buying OS4 first before speculating how to crack it?". Like I said, he started it. Tell him to wind his neck in.

> PowerPC accelerator

What if someone create dual ported RAM connection boards between Classic Amiga and PCI based PowerPC machine/board?

Is it possible to use the PowerPC machine as accelerator for Classic Amiga and run AmigaOS 4.0 on this setup?

And in the Install instructions, 200 meg free space minimum is needed on the hard drive partition.

Correct, WHDload, kills AmigaOS, so it does not work, maybe updated version of WHDload is able to do it, because the 604 PowerPC CPU is to week to run E-UAE (PPC) and Basilisk 2 (PPC) interpreted, if some one wrote a JIT CPU emulator for E-UAE then maybe, your best option right now is dual boot, AmigaOS3.5/3.9 and AmigaOS4 on different partitions.

yikes 200mb harddisk space, i didn't thought it was that big? Or is that only when installating and the installation actually takes less space?

@TetiSoft

I think many do like to buy AmigaOS4, but they have nothing to run it on, and there is no new AmigaOS hardware for it, this is way the option of emulation pops up, emulation is not the same as piracy, too different things.

For example I purchase a legal copy of AmigaOS3.5 whit original packaging from GGS data, just to emulate it; my classic hardware is E-UAE, it runs on my AmigaOne.

That seems to be something like the original plan for the "AmigaOne" hardware
from Escena (not the machines from Eyetech). And IIRC we saw more announcements
about classic Amiga addon boards which contain at least a PPC and PCI. But we
saw no hardware, and IMHO we wont see any new PPC addon hardware for classic
Amigas anymore.

@thread
Sorry, had a bad day today (again). Birthday of my daughter...
Please understand that after seeing discussed the AI/Hyperion contract in hundreds
of posts, seeing discussed the terms "OS4 hardware license" and "target hardware"
for years, that it may trigger aggressive behaviour of myself when people
start asking if it would be legal to run OS4 under UAE. Next time please ask AInc
about an OS4 license for UAE and please stop asking Hyperion about OS4 for x86,
OS4 for UAE, OS4 for 68k etc pp... My goal was to help developing OS4 for real
PPC hardware and not to create something which runs inside any sort of emulation.

To write something positive and on-topic here, OS4Classic runs here with
PicassoIV and AriadneII and MultiFaceCardIII on A4k with Micronik ZIII
daughterboard. I've also tested CyberVision64/3D, PicassoII, Merlin,
Prometheus plus Permedia2, AriadneI.

Oh, and the original fan of the 233MHz CSPPC was too small. AFAIK its a known
problem of the 233MHz variant that also appears with other PPC OSes, IIRC its known
as "LR bug". A bit in that register flips when the CPU gets too hot, in the
meantime OS4 has a workaround for that but I would better not try to find
out how much this decreases performance when getting too hot or which registers
start flipping when getting even hotter.
