Hi,

I have completed my review of the Minimig. Part two with more screenshots, comments, verdict and an initial list of working software is online.

I have also started working on a case for the Minimig, if anyone is interested please pm me.

Could someone please link my review to wikipedia for me?

I have worked on the site until 2 a.m., I am absolutely exhausted!

www.loriano.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk

Enjoy!

@TheDaddy

I read your review, it's really intresting. Do you have a clue why some games are not working ?

@TheDaddy

Thanks for taking the time to write such a detailed review.

A shame Superfrog, Alienbreed and Chaosengine doesn't work those are all great games :(

@DualCrew

Nope not yet. I have got quite a few games, most of the adfs I made them years ago. I am bit annoyed that some of my favourite games aren't working properly though.

It could be a bad adf, corrupted file...

I am waiting for more people with a Minimig to report their results which might be different from mine, I will then add them to the site.

I have to say that the majority works and you can't tell the difference between the Minimig and an A500! The sound and video are quality!

I have only tested about 40 games. Also remember that if the game loads and runs for the first few minutes then it's fine for me. I can't really play them all from the beginning to the end!

@Troels

My pleasure.

I have to say that reviewing this kind of stuff on your own with just a digital camera and a laptop running Win XP is extremely exhausting, I am soooo tired!

But I am glad people like it and enjoy reading it. I thought it had to be done...

The guys at ACube liked it, even if the score is "only" 4 boing balls out of 5

Look out for the Minimig case, coming soon!

Just one small thing, could you not have just added this to the other review thread you started, rather than creating a 4th Minimig thread (and 2nd review thread).

Try the ADFs from Dream17 site.

Hmm, you can't use it without the keyboard? I thought one of the Amiga joysticks could be used to control the menu. Oh well, it's not as carryable as I thought, might as well take an A600 around to your mates.

Also, if your TV has one, is it possible to play this on a TV through the VGA connector? An S-Video out would have be perfect in the MiniMig.

Still impressed with it though, and I'll be buying one when the funds come through.

Thanks for the detailed review of your experience with the Minimig I found it to be an interesting read and I like your high res pictures of the board and your list of the software you have test.

Now just to make a quick correction about your FAT16 part of the review firstly FAT16 can support long file names, its just the minimig dose not support long file names at this time.

Secondly the largest partition FAT16 supports is 2GB so the largest SD card you can use is most likely 2GB as well.

Anyway thanks again for your helpful review of the first new Amiga hardware to go on sale for a sometime.

I thought it would have been easier for people to find it, but I'll remember this for the next time, I got a bit carried away

Pleasure, tiring but worth it.

Good idea, I'll get Superfrog (my favourite platformer) and if it still not showing Superfrog's sprite then there is an incompatibility issue, but thanks for reminding me!

I'll test and report, I am not sure if it says it in the manual, maybe overlooked?!

I believe any LCD TV with SVGA input should work...

The guys at work are gobsmacked!

I thought FAT used some kind of trick/hack to support long filenames but I might be wrong and delete that part on my site. Thanks for the correction.

>>Secondly the largest partition FAT16 supports is 2GB so the largest SD card you can use is most likely 2GB as well.

Yes that was tested and it worked fine, the only problem reported was the Windows error; "This file or directory cannot be created" which stops you from adding any more files. I found that if the files on the SD-Card stuck to the 8.3 convention the error would disappear thus giving you the chance of carrying on copying files across. Again you might be right, it could be one of the Minimig's limitations.

>>Anyway thanks again for your helpful review of the first new Amiga hardware to go on sale for a sometime.

Pleasure, glad you liked it...

If anyone is interested in more details about the limitations of the different versions of the FAT file system I would recommend reading this web page : http://articles.techrepublic.com.com/5100-10880_11-6082941.html as it sums up the differences between the different versions quite nicely.

And how many news threads regarding OWB's revisions there are...

Then set AW's OWB threshold to a fewer amount!
