Thanks! From the figures you submitted i glean that you have the latest drivers installed (the 64k figure is larger then the 32k figure).
|
Yes, I made the test with the latest drives. However, I'm not sure that the relative speeds were different, before.

A pitty! A simple peek in Media Toolbox would have provided you with all info you need. Pretty please?

Here it is: Maxtor 60 Gb (bought sometime in 2002).

Those figures are pretty low! Are you sure you have set up DMA correctly? Figures should be AT LEAST twice as high. Take for instance a look at line 1 and 2 in the summary. Tweaking time, Sir!

Okay I'm back with mine. I also decided to add some things, namely DMA settings. I am using the newer drivers.

I was just thinking the same myself! I ran it 3 times, just to check.
So this DMA tweaking of which you speak, how do you do it? _________________ Rage quited 29th May 2011 |

You used the square brackets, which are located next to the 'P' key. You should have used the 'less then' and 'greater then' characters, which are located next to the 'M' key. Remember they are HTML-tags.

DMA can be set with this variable in UBoot cli: a1ide_xfer. First, however, you should check the value set with this command from your Amiga-shell:
nvgetvar a1ide_xfer

Thanks! I'll try it sometime, but I'm just thinking I might as well sell my µA1, and just keep eveything on my Peg II. But then I did spend all friggin' day wresling with it trying to work out why it wasn't booting, and I'm still not quite sure why it didn't. And I couldn't cope without an AmigaOS style(TM) Operating sytem in my life _________________ Rage quited 29th May 2011 |

Here's the results from the A4000 (CSPPC 640e@200), cybppc.device unit 0 (Maxtor Atlas 10K4_36WLS 37GB):
MKSoft ScsiSpeed 4.2 Copyright © 1989-92 MKSoft Development AmigaOS4 port by Stéphane Guillard ------------------------------------------------------------ CPU: 68020 AmigaOS Version: 52.21 Device: cybppc.device:0

Testing with a 65536 byte, MEMF_FAST, LONG-aligned buffer. Read from SCSI: 16967270 bytes/sec
Now the A1: The A1IDE bus has a Hitachi Deskstar IC35L060 60GB disk, the Sii3512 has a Western Digital WDC WD80 80GB SATA drive.
Note the A1 is not DMA fixed so DMA is disabled on the a1ide. It's plenty fast enough as it is but I have a Sii0680 card for when I don't have a TV card in it. I use the SATA drive for large files.

One thing is certainly eyebrowraising: the figure for 32k buffer. For some reason it drops to slightly above 8k buffer throughput. Whether WD drives are slow, in the sense of being typically or proverbially slow, I don't know. To me they seem to be average. But, hey, to devellope a correct statistically based opinion, I would like to have more different figures!
So, hint, hint, come on you lads 'n' lasses. Churn those figures out.
