It seems that my Amiga One's battery has stopped working again.This happened yesterday at night and before two weeks ago too because it went down on the last days of November.

Now I putted a new I think duracell battery one that I will try maybe tomorrow.

What do you think?

Do you suspect something?

I suspect my battery of 2 or 3 years of use has gone empty theoritecally but:

Does anybody know how can I replace an spent battery for any new to make my Amiga One work again?

Or could it be another solution?

The latest experience with my Amiga One with OS4.1 update1 installation included lasted only for two weeks!!!

@newlight

There is really something consuming the battery as I have changed once a Varta battery to the XE between 2004-2010..

Even the A500 original memories have better batteries than these A1:s.

What is this then?

Somebody with an electrick meter measure what difference is when the machine is on, off etc from the battery?

Not me now as the skills are Edit: not underrated but non-existing.

Every A1 owner should buy a cheap digital voltmeter. You put the black lead on the case medal (frame) & the red lead to the top of the battery in the socket. If it's below 3.0 volts, change the battery, just that simple.

When anything seems to be going wrong with an Eyetech AmigaOne system you generally should replace the battery before doing anything else. It's the cheapest and easiest thing to do first. It also helps to keep a backup of your UBoot environment variables just in case they get wiped by battery issues (e.g. C:nvgetvar and print the output).

This advice does not apply to the other AmigaOS platforms like Sam440ep and Pegasos 2 systems.

@ssolie

I have tested with a Duracell one with the cables of the monitor and tower disconnected last night and today now after connecting again it doesn't show any screen on the monitor.I think this battery is new sure.

I have other 3 CR2032 batteries.One Sony battery that is the original of my Amiga One no working I think and two Maxwell coin batteries one of wich is the last it make work again the machine and now is discharged probably because it stopped to work last days and the other I think it was used so probably discharged and unusable for my Amiga One.

In order to make it work what kind of batteries are suitable for the Amiga One?
Any CR2032 should work? If yes,why my Amiga One doesn't work even with a new Duracell battery?

Any ideas will be really appreciated

@newlight

even if you can get any thing on your screen, you should be able to get some text out of your RS232 serial port.
get a null modem cable, so you can debug it.

baudrate=115200 or 9600 or 19200

I recall you had problems with that duracell last time as well.. I suggest you go buy one that you are 100% sure is new and maybe of different brand. I sadly dont know which brands are best though.

@NutsAboutAmiga

That's impossible for me now because I don't have a computer with serial port near my Amiga One.

OK I take note.

I will try to buy some new when I know what brands are the best for my Amiga One.

Maybe AmigaKit has some new batteries suitable for my Amiga One?

I've had my micro for years and I've never changed the battery. According to the post by REX, unplugging the computer draws a jolt of power. Probably turning off a power strip would do the same thing. Do you turn off your power strip several times a day?

At last I changed the Duracell battery for an old Maxwell one and all goes fine again,just when I was thinking about buying a new battery.

If there is something about batteries or Amiga Ones we can know post here is better to learn things for possible future events. I want to say you that you can continue posting.

@newlight

Now that you know it's the battery causing the prblem, go and buy a NEW one. They cost very little, £1.50 each at most? Get one from a shop that has a high turnover, so that it hasn't been on the shelf for a long time.

To be honest I don't think brand will make much difference, but since you macwell one works, you mightas well get another maxwell one.

I have an AmigaOne and the problem you have plagued me for several years.

I swear that the ONLY change I have made to my habits (the system never changed) is that I ALWAYS turn my Amiga off by use of the butterfly switch at the back of the computer and NOT with the on/off button on the front.

"unplugging the A1 would result in a quick surge of current spiking at 1253 uA before settling at 4.4 ~ 4.7 uA the final stabilized voltage would vary from unplug to unplug. replugging my A1 would sometimes resulted in a quick current spike of between 8 and 800 uA before settling down at 4.7uA"

He asked if you turn of the computer by using the off switch on power supply. This apparently can discharge the battery faster than normal.

No I have never used the off button of the power supply to turn off my machine.
I use the front button to turn on/off my computer.

What he is saying is...
Your loss of power would cause the same problem.
A "new" battery means nothing. Batteries bought brand new may not measure over 3.0, which they must do in order to boot, in most cases.
Kurt Grach reported that 2.85 or less is fatal.

Oeps, i think my battery is too low also. Was taking my A1G3SE to an amiga-meeting
last weekend and had trouble booting it there. Now at home it wont start anymore.
After 6 years connected to the powerline it finaly is my time now.

Like i could see it is a panasonic battery that is in the SE.

If i remove the battery from the A1, are my settings lost then?
