@Metalheart

Yes, you're right, the future arrival of X1000 is probably the origin of this announcement. Moreover, ACUBE had reported being aware of the X1000 project before his official announcement .
I think it will be some basic configurations to 990 euros and other much more cost efficient.

Or they're just trying to dump stock and pull out of the game. Who's buying sams while we're all waiting for ever to get specs and pricing for the A1X1K?

Maybe they couldn't sell it at that price because of the F.
What on earth is that F for anyway?
"The Red One F".

Why do you keep calling it A1X1K ?? Why not just give it two extra characters and just go for A1X1000 ? Much easier to read, not more difficult to write, a lot easier to understand, and it doesnt look less 'cool' (Because that's why you're doing it, isn't it ? )

Ah, well... just nitpicking

Cheers.

edit: in case of misunderstandings... Just joking....

You avatar is extremely unpleasant to my eyes.. Using something else would be easier on my eyes. And would probably not look less 'cool'.

Well, just nitpicking (while we are at it)...

@steril606

It reminds me of the podling in 'The Dark Crystal' film! Very disturbing as a kid but I can stomach such things now

@Thread

I don't think the price of the AmigaOne X1000 will be around 990 Euros. I estimate it to be 1500 Euros or above.

I don't really like how some people now spit at Acube's face. May I remind these people what Acube did for the Amiga communauty ?

I know what will happen when the AmigaOne X1000 will be launched, many will complain about it to be too expensive, not being as they were expected and then not buying it but waiting for another machine.

SamFlex are still available and for the vast majority of Amigans is fast enough with AmigaOS 4.1 Update 1 to do what the majority of us do : surfing, mailing, playing some games, watching videos, etc...

AmigaOne X1000 will be aimed, IMHO, to those who really need power (developpers, video editing, 3D modeling, etc...).

According to the interview witch TrevorD in Amiga Future - the price you mention is also the price plus/minus TrevorD expects.

@K-L

I can barely watch web-based videos on my 1.5GHz Mac Mini with MorphOS, so I'm not sure a SAM would handle HTML5 or flash with any level of acceptability?

(OWB 1.7 has improved the situation), but it's still very intensive. SAM would probably be brought to it's knees.

i would also be interested to know how many RED ONE F systems RELEC has actually shifted since its introduction. the case used for THE RED ONE -- non-flex based system -- is a thing of beauty. if it were not for the price in USD (around $1200, before the purchase of an amiga os license), i would have snagged one long, long ago. phillipe, et al, you're all very fortunate to have one! but... the case they use for the flex variant is, er, less than gorgeous. at least to me.

of course, for EU640 (around $870), their flex-based system now compares much more favorably to the bundles amigakit offers, that is, once the price of the amiga os license is added and the total adjusted for VAT.

here's wishing RELEC much success, if for no other reason than making the amiga more available to those who won't have the cash on-hand to afford an X1000 when it ships. like me.

On youtube with html5 my 1.5GHz mini works at about 70% load. Okay for that maschine, but I didn't even try it out on my Efika or Pegasos G3.
I saw non-fluent Flash replay is not only a matter of cpu power but of handling the stream actually. I had flash videos that did replay nearly fluent, but still with some stutter, while the cpu usage was as low as 30%. So, for flash I am confident an update of the plug in may significantly improve the situation.

@HammeD

I agree with you about this point but Flash is not really Amiga Style if you want my opinion. All these heavy technologies are created without any optimizations (and even less PowerPC optimizations).

And honestly, even my Athlon 4800+ with Mandriva 2010 hardly copes with speed when displaying heavy Flash. So i don't think these technologies are the future four Amiga systems.

Of course, if your only goal is to watch Flash animation, i would not recommend you Amiga systems.

For all the rest, I think a 733 Mhz SamFlex is far enough if programs written are optimized (Amiga Style).

During the Primever showin Lyon, we demoed Sam440 and SamFlex with AmigaOS 4.1 Update 1 and no visitor complained about speed. They just compained about lack of an Office suite.

You may code any "style" you want (btw, since when does Amiga style means optimisation ?), if your machine doesn't have the raw power to do something, it won't do it. And talking about raw power, SAM isn't enough. And won't be enough as time will pass and applications complexity/richness will improve. That being said, I'm sure the SAM is nice for embbed market it is aimed at.

Does the 640 euros include VAT and OS4 ?

I've noticed at least few people here who have bought a new Sam since details of the X1000 were released.

That's good news because I don't think it's really fair to ACube that definitive specs and prices haven't been announced regarding the a1x1k.
