Wow, the mid-90s saviour of the Amiga, Petro Tyschtschenko has just turned 67!

I've just found this thread from 7 years ago on the 17th April when he turned 60! Doesn't time fly!

@itix

From http://www.amigaflame.com/amiptr.htm

Quote:
Petro Tyschtschenko will be remembered in Amiga history as the man who kept Amiga International in operation long enough to get a buyer, to take the Amiga forward.

From http://www.richmace.co.uk/c64/html/commodore_history.htm

Quote:
Like Tramiel, Tyschtschenko is an ambitious and impatient visionary. By the end of 1995, his fledgling division had produced and sold 20,000 Amiga 1200s in Europe. While Amiga will initially focus on the Continent, Tyschtschenko plans to aggressively enter the North American market in 1996.

Which he did with partnership with QuikPak launching the A4000T with 4060 accelerator
That's is hardly nothing

Plus his momentum got the A4000T out to the mass market for the first time. It wasn't his fault 'Escom' didn't advertise it or stock them in Escom shops!!!

Compared to Bill and Fleecy, Petro was like Jay Miner himself in terms of providing love and support for the Amiga!!

"Petro Tyschtschenko will be remembered in Amiga history as the man who kept Amiga International in operation long enough to get a buyer, to take the Amiga forward. "

FAIL.

"Like Tramiel, Tyschtschenko is an ambitious and impatient visionary. By the end of 1995, his fledgling division had produced and sold 20,000 Amiga 1200s in Europe. While Amiga will initially focus on the Continent, Tyschtschenko plans to aggressively enter the North American market in 1996. "

FAIL.

"The eagerly anticipated Amiga 4000 Tower will be the last model produced using Motorola's 68000 series processors. Gathering a core of former Commodore engineers, Tyschtschenko is overseeing the development of an improved operating system and new hardware utilizing the Power PC 604. Dubbed the Power Amiga project, the company is creating hardware and software in conjunction with IBM, Motorola, Apple and over a dozen other companies. "

FAIL.

"Amiga's updated operating system will include memory protection, virtual memory and improved network capabilities. Coupled with the Power PC it should make a very fast hybrid."

EPIC FAIL.

Don't be too hard on Bill and Fleecy. I agree that they didn't do much , but at least we now have os4. Now realy by they direct action, but they did something.

On the other hand, thing would have been really different if Pedro were in charge. I do belive that he really had the amiga at heart unlike Bill and Fleecy. I would think that under the financial circonstances that Pedro was, he did acheived a lot. I wish he would have all the ressources that Bill and Fleecy had.

I am grateful to all the people who did / do something to keep this system alive in the market.

In this life we must be grateful for the effort but not get the expected result.

Happy Birthday! Petro.

@Petro

Happy Birthday!

It were nice days, when I read my first Amiga magazine and saw the enthusiasm of this man (1995, I was around 10 years old).

@BigD

He filled people with false hope and mouse mats, while others including me were trying to build something and mostly failing because of lack of support and broken promises from Amiga owners at the time.

If Gateway had not pulled the plug on the PCI Amiga project and sold out, Amiga would now be on x86 hardware and we may not be in this predicament. I will say nothing about PPC as there is nothing new to say.

And as the man who is responsible for selling off the remaining amiga hardware stocks for underprice..

But anyways.. I think he at least had a good heart even if he did a few mistakes like selling off the remaining hardware for underprice.

And btw, where could he be now? Is there any clue? Does he follow the Amiga Platform or has he retired anyway?

What do you mean?

C= A1200 UK Price 1992 £399
Escom A1200 UK Price 1995 £399

A4000T 1996/7 Price $1997 US dollars

This did not seem cheap!!! The 3 Year Old A1200 design was sold at the same price as the C= Version!!!! The A4000T wasn't cheap!!

I recall reading a story about how they sold off remaining hardware stock to india or something for low price right before they went under. I am not 100% sure about the accuracy of that story though.
