Dunno, but as Barry posted elsewhere, there are NO other licensees now for the C= licensing. And Commodore Holdings Corporation (formerly the Asiarim licensor) mentioned that the change in name was due to a change in focus, to reflect current business. I see all of this tied together to some degree.

I must've missed this bit before, it's the first time i hear it... they have a licence only for United States/Canadian markets then?
If so, why are some EU citizens around here so excited?

If you get that idea from my post..no.
My fault for assuming people know the history.
Asiarim had stated ideals concerning more than one licensee. I had posted about 1 or 2 of those. Barry later stated that the products listed by another group using the C= trademark (those shown at CES, iirc) were vaporware and he added "poof". heh.
The Asiarim statement then about changing focus, seemed to follow that same line, what with Barry being the only licensee left.
Hope that's more clear.

@damocles? :

so:
1) "Commodore OS 1.0 will be mailed to purchasers when available :("

...sadly i don't have internet access ;( but maybe you can send the floppies?

2) a card reader included! VISA/MasterCard cards? (i hate them because of the Wikileaks...)

but generally that's good.

3) C=64: Delivery between mid May and early April? so it's gonna be shipped only for one year? :( (you really should find a good factory and not so rare components...)

It's also not the same computer if you sit them side by side. It's made by the same ODM, but it's slightly different. I'll let Leo or Barry go on about the differences, it's been a couple of months and I just don't remember enough about it.

$595 (or 420 EUROs) isn't that bad considering the cost of the keyboard is close to $100 (or 71 EUROs). This is targeting the C64 retro crowd and not the Amiga crowd. Amiga fans will have their turn in the coming months.

Ok, just considering the case, it could be something for the C64 retro crowd, though...

@damocles

I'm a little confused by what's on the sale page vs the most recent news reports I've been reading. Can you clarify?

From the C=USA sales page:

Quote:
Units come with the Ubuntu 10.04 LTS operating system on disk ready to install.
Commodore OS 1.0, along with emulation functionality and classic game package, will be mailed to purchasers when available.

vs

Quote:
The computer comes loaded with a newly developed Commodore operating system, which the company hopes can be "competitive with the likes of those offered by Microsoft and Apple.

Digital Trends

I've seen others using this line. Is it just me seeing this as unclear?

I think they were hoping it would ship with their distro but must not have been ready in time.

Logical. ty.

Problem with some of these articles (regardless of topic) is that they just quote one another, or link to one another, which just serves to spread the mistakes.

Right on target. And from the email I got from a very tired Barry and I quote, "orders are through the roof" and it's beyond what he had wished for in activity and sales. That is even before the effects of the DVDs that went on sale today and the TV network adds haven't started yet.

I mostly meant that OS 4 hardware should be cheaper, because I'm interested in OS 4. I hope A-Eon can make a low cost motherboard for the poor mortals after their X1000.
