| Hi All
Humour me again as a returning Amigan, I have forgot so much!
I am using currently OWB as my browser and Simplemail as my mail client, was wondering how do I configure them so that if I click on a web address link within a mail it opens it in OWB?
I can't see any options of this sort within Simplemail preferences and OWB has no preferences as such just options set within the icon, any ideas?

It's been a long time since I used them. . . but. . . in prefs there's a control called URL. But I also have OpenURL in there as well. I think I added OpenURL because I wasn't getting consistent linking with the URL prefs editor. But at least one of them allows a click on a URL in simplemail and opens up OWB to the correct page.

Ahem, no. Setting up SYS:Prefs/URL should be enough, no need to install extra software. Last edited by cha05e90 on 23-Jul-2011 at 08:58 PM.

Hm, seems that this is correct for YAM only, so far. SimpleMail doesnt seem to use URLOpen, but works fine with OpenURL here.
@sicky:
Should work out of the box, at least it did here |

Really? Nevermind - I read it vice versa (clicking a MAILTO: link in OWB starting up SimpleMail...). _________________ X1000|II/G4|440ep|2000/060|2000/040|1000 |

Bah. My settings are for YAM. You'll need someone to post for Simplemail.

OpenURL grabs
I took shots of each setting in OpenURL and URLprefs. Change your paths etc as needed,

| @sicky The latest version of OS4.1 removed the need for OpenURL, and I actually got rid of OpenURL because it started crashing. Go to Sys:Prefs/URL, then MAILTO tab, and for SimpleMail add the following line:
Client Name=SimpleMail Client Path=APPDIR:SimpleMail Commandline Format="MAILTO=*"%s*""
You may actually already have this line, in which case you just need to ensure it is ticked, and that YAM is unticked (or at least below SimpleMail). _________________ Author of the PortablE programming language. It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue... |

As far as I understand it, sicky needs a http assignment, so that OWB opens when he clicks on an URL within a mail, not a mailto: assignment for the case he clicks a mailto: link within a web page. |

Thats correct, if I click on a mail address link that works fine. I wanted it to open a web page if I click on a link to a websiute within a mail._________________ SAM 460 with 2GB or RAM, 1000GB HD, 4 port SATA, DVDRW drive and Radeon HD 4650 GFX card. |

So you have to use OpenURL, until SimpleMail supports the URLOpen facility of OS4.x. AFAIK this should happen with one of the next versions of SimpleMail.
OpenURL worked here out of the box, so a simple install should be enough to get it working with SimpleMail. It supports OWB, too
I used this version, no problems here so far.
Edit: Oh, noticed that both URL open facilities work side by side. I had a configuration error in my URL Prefs which prevented SimpleMail to be opened on a mailto: click, and some error requester from the URL thingie popped up. http link within a mail opens IBrowse here, which is the default for OpenURL Prefs on my system. Any particular reason you use an ancient version of openurl?

If it ain't broke, why screw with it?
Other then that, v7.9 wasn't uploaded to depot, only to Aminet.

Paul gave you some screen shots to look at, those openurl settings are the same for URL Prefs in 4.1. The commandline setting needs to be correct or it won't work.
My URL Pref HTTP setting: Client=OWB_3.31 Path=APPDIR owb_3.31 Commandline="*"http//%s*"" Your file name may be different then mine.
Most of us are using YAM. Last edited by sundown on 24-Jul-2011 at 06:44 PM.
