Just wanted to post to say thanks to the ANT members and also to Steve Jones for the display of his AmigaOne X1000 yesterday (Sunday 11th December) and the chance to have a play with it.

To all the doubters, this is a very responsive, fast bit of quality hardware and OS. It fairly flew. Steve had three video's running at once with sound on all three. No glitching or stuttering at all and other apps running at the same time, even though the vids were all running off the CPU, as the drivers are not yet ready. Very nice.

Can't wait until I can afford one.

@OldAmigan

Can you provide any more info regarding the meeting and demonstration of the X1000? What did they run on it for the demonstration? How many people showed up to see it? What other systems were there during the presentation of the X1000? How long did the meeting last?

Very little info has been posted, and I have not seen any pictures or videos from the meeting anywhere yet.

Here are a couple of videos of my demonstration, I have cropped a couple of minutes from the beginning and a minute at the end during the CD32 demo.

The first one is an introduction to me and general chat, the second straight into a brief demo of X1000. Please note I forgot to show MuiOWB while filming DOH!

@clusteruk

Nice demo, lol at seeing my vid at that start. Nice to see something I made running on an X1000! even if its just a vid

Great demo, nice to see how fast it was running 68K programs and videos considering really this is all still in a beta set up. But best news I think that is coming out is how stable the system appear to be!

Great work all round.

Nice one Steve,

That does look rather tasty...and fast!

Do we know the cost of an AmigaOne X1000?

the 'first contact' systems start at GBP1699. [edit: order link and pricing redacted] i'm still waiting on shipping estimates before placing an order. it's a huge wad of cash, but for me, it's very much worth it.

@eliyahu

Thanks, I'll have a look.
Lots of money but it looks properly quick, I wonder if the Xena/Xorro will ever be used?

well, perhaps chris' post on amibay explains why i haven't heard back yet on shipping. they sold out of the 'first contact' systems in less than thirty-six hours. i missed it!

@amigakit

please tell me there will be new stock at some point!

@amigadave

It was quite a low key affair, 14 of us in total. There were no other systems there as part of the presentation, but in attendance were x2 Sam Flexes and an AmigaOne XE.

The meeting ran from 1pm - 5pm, the presentation that Steve showed was about half hour to forty five minutes, he did a really good job and presents very well I thought, he's also a very honest and top bloke who exudes his enthusiasm, not just for the X1000 and AmigaOS4 but also the AROS projects and initiatives he has worked on - he gave a history of his involvement with the Amiga over the years, a very interesting story - definitely a key player in Amiga developments over the last 20 years or so!

For the demonstration, Steve demonstrated a few apps and programs such as the Realtime Raytracer, TV Paint and MPlayer and Pinball Fantasies through RunInUAE. Performance seemed very good even now. I had a go on the machine myself for around 10 minutes and I have to admit it seemed very stable even though there's still development to do - I'm an experienced OS4 user and I could not get the machine to crash - I started up apps such as Brilliance 68K, PPaint 68K, Tunenet, AmigaAMP, Media toolbox, various programs such as the CLI, Scout and Ranger - all seemed very stable - sure I received the odd Grim Reaper on some apps that wouldn't run but nothing hung the system. Also saw a Remote Desktop client running Blender on a Windows VM over the internet - pretty cool seeing that on an Amiga I thought.

On a final note about the X1000 - this thing seems very well put together - I know we joke about military spec and all that on Amiga sites but the build quality on this board seems incredible. I was impressed - I like it, so much so that in the new year I think I'll be buying one - not decided on colour yet

Some people were taking photos of the meeting so we may see something put up at some point. I also saw Napalm from Clickboom being played on an Amiga NG for the first time (as in the first time I'd seen it) - looked really good, loved that game on my A1200 030/50 so looking forward to patching my XE to update 3 and downloading the patch from OS Depot.

After the meeting, a few of us ANTs went to a local Chinese and had an all you can eat sit down meal (ChrisH, are you still ordering that drink? )

It was good and a nice way to round off a great day; good company, conversation, jokes and food.

Merry Xmas

Regards,
Rude!

Sorry about the OWB mess up, I had that bit all planned and forgot it, old age.

I will do another proper X1000 video soon.

your maths are a bit off. they sold out in less than two!

i can't believe it, either. for those of us on this side of the pond, the thing will set you back around $3000+, and yet we've all scraped for months raising funds to the point there are too many buyers for not enough product. this level of success is gratifying, but especially to those who invested and took the risks. i genuinely hope trevor sees enough from this to break even or better. he certainly deserves it.

i really hope there will be another production run. that system with the white case and a working openGL implementation.... *drool*

Whilst I do not know production plans, there will be more runs while product sells.
