Having an access to the OS4 dev list dont make them official OS4 developers nor their contributions official OS4 components. Make it part of OS4 and then it is OS4 component.
|
But that would involve paying developers which cost money! Like JXFS who once was the flagship of OS4 and even included in the printed manual but then "silently" being shifted to be no longer recommended when some issues arose that couldn't be fixed anymore.
Better this way, "official" by vague posts in online forums!
"The team is working on replacements for the traditional Amiga file systems but when they will be released has not been determined."

I guess this was it? Charity coder salass00 makes a port of Leif Salomonsson filesysbox.library?
(BTW, was "a-eontechnology.com" a usable domain for the hyperion forum before, or is A-Eonkit taking over Hyperion as well like everything else?)

My guesses as to who is using that account this time.
Timothy?, ssolie?, amigadave?
|
If it's not Ben Hermans and if it's not ssolie (which it probably is due to the posting style), then how about Matthew Leaman?

Matthew Leaman does not have access to this account.
I will not dignify the rest of the discussion with a response. Work using the new DOS vector API to produce a brand-new filesystem is already underway by Tony Wyatt since quite some time.
Date of completion is not known yet.
Note that JXFS was deprecated at the request of the author himself who claims that his design has a fatal flaw in it which cannot be cured. It will not affect the integrity of your data but apparently there is a severe inherent limitation.
I find it hard to argue the issue with the author of a piece of software. I assume he does know what he is saying.
Best regards,

Merely a question I'm curious about. Since the AmigaOS4 HDA driver was originally developed by the developer who developed the HDA driver for Steve Jones are you sure it doesn't use any of the same codebase?

thats the mess with a proprietary software where there is only a few voluntary developers, who therefore may not always be the ultimate authorities in the field, where sources are closed and people own bits and pieces which are lost as soon as they feel like walking away.
what concerns the future file system, how about pfs3? its free, open source, actively and skilfully maintained by toni wilen (and piru sintonen if i recall well)Last edited by wawa on 01-Aug-2014 at 12:12 PM.

Well I welcome Spottily Anyway, it good program really like it, shure its closed sourced, but a business needs to make money. I'm not sure artists will trust a open source music client's.

As soon as some thing like Filesystem is dead, can put in contribution folder, so its not automatically installed, that should solve most problems users have. With buggy filesystems.

i was referring to jxfs or what its called. this thread is off topic for so long, it could safely be renamed, since no news on topic are expected i guess. the original poster has apparently not logged in since 1-Apr-2014. maybe hes been banned;) Last edited by wawa on 01-Aug-2014 at 12:57 PM.
