@Rudei

I remember going to Paul's for a garage meet or two, and of course all the big bashes. Great times!

Big Bashes were epic. Always good times, met some great people at those (yourself, ChrisY, The Editor, Bobson, JurassicC, Swisso, FuZion, AJS to name buit a few)

@Rudei

The Big Bash shows worked because some key people & personalities WANTED it to work.

It started out with a casual remark I made to Simon Archer at an ANT meeting. I asked him if he'd do a presentation "oop our way". I really wan't expecting him to agree !!

Rigo was all for it which put in me quite a dilemma.

I had neither the technical knowledge or the finances to do anything elaborate but if I was going to invite people to my little city then I figured I'd like to make the whole shebang a fun event.
The woman who ran the local community hall.. My brother went to school with her daughter and a "mates-rates" deal was struck.

People started to spread the word.. (Total Amiga etc)

People took notice. Succesful business people offered much needed financial support

And ..Probably critically

Alan Redhouse donated a Micro A1 as a prize which made the event attractive to everyone, even the Blue-Side & doubters, A couple who also turned up and was great to meet them (Alkis, Smithy etc)

Mikey_C, who don't forget, runs his own show took care of the media side, Paul filmed it, Rigo presented it, Carl connected it all --- Using his Camper Van as a repeater for my home WiFi signal to the hall.

And...

YOU ALL ATTENDED !!

It must of made a pretty good impression on people because quite a number of you called for another Big Bash even though we never really had anything new to display.

But it got some new, KEY people helping out both technically & financially all of whom travelled quite some considerable distance to help out (Lowestoft, Taunton etc) and... As reliable as ever... Simon Archer.

Larger than life personalities did their bit too (Web-site & Flyers), Not forgetting 5 bl00dy tickets and a trip up the M6 toll road !!

The offshoot resulting in some awesome people standing in my freezing cold garage huddled around our monitors trying to glean some heat from them (The Amiga doesn't kick off much heat !!)

I hope I haven't forgotten anyone.

I think.. Even taking into account the "No-Show" of key attractions" WE ALL made the events great fun.

I think that guy with his blue haired girlfriend flogging that GP2X was well pleased too !!

I also believe We are STILL the only show to have had a computer as a prize with awesome concillatory prizes too ?

Footnote

We never made a profit, But we never set out to.
For the record, after we all withdrew legitimate expenses (probably A1200 being down as he donated prizes) we broke even.

We are all still friends so we all must have been satisfied !!

[Edit]
I STILL have the revolving case Rigo made for the "No-Show" in my garage. I'll find a use for it one day !

A nice recital of those great times Paul. Shame the flame wasn't kept alive a little longer. I am only in Cambs these days (well weekends right now!) we will have to meet up again mate, I haven't seen you in ages!

@all the hopelessly nostalgic

We could pick a day, meet in Peterborough (why? cos it's in the middle of the UK and has good road/rail links dumbass), also the home of the Big Bash, and just have a few beers. Nothing more - no big announcements no promises of new stuff, just chin wagging about everything and anything and then crawling back to the local travel inn.

Anyone think that would be fun? Oh you want a name for the "event" or you won't come? OK how about "Big Bash it 'int"?

If anyone from outside of the UK comes that would be just mad, but all welcome.

I'm in!

Just finished watching a few most offensive jokes compilations on YouTube and I wasn't offended by any of it. What does that mean? Mean's they're not trying hard enough dammit!
