I almost got sucked into that too. I'd rather have the better technology. So, I understand your position. Fortunately for me I did not have the funds back then to invest in one. When I could afford one Betamax was already being rejected and VHS became the standard.

I love my X1000 and I am very happy that I have it. I enjoy receiving each update as it comes along. It makes me appreciate the machine just seeing how it improves each time. Perhaps I am unusual in this aspect.

nah you aint unusal Moxee ol boy ...I feel the exact same way after every update cause after all I bought it knowing full well we would be getting multi-core support and full 3d acceleration later on.

heck for me, like my other hobby- cars, it's all about enjoying the ride to where I wanna go

Besides the ride my X1000 is giving me, this is another of my favorite rides:

1959 Chevrolet Apache 3100 Step Side.

This was my Father's work truck from 1959-1999 when he passed on.

Like you, I've got my X1000 and got my truck. :) Moxee, that's a very cool ride. Bet your old man would be pleased you kept it around.

They sure don't make 'em like that anymore, unfortunately. The days of buying a car or truck and keeping it more than 4-5 years are over. We live in a disposable world......

Awe inspiring

I'm slightly younger, so my old ride is the 1969 MF135 (straight axle like rev2 but mk1 hydraulics pump like rev1, sort of a rev 1.5 produced for a month or so in late 69) my father bought second hand in 1977. Drove it most of today, clearing out horse poo from the thawing field. And then drilling some post holes cause I knocked down a post in addition to the one my horse ran over last weekend. Took half an hour or so to drill two half meter deep holes.

The other old ride is of course my oldest horse, she was born in 1977. This morning she went to sleep in the snow and couldn't get back up. She keeps forgetting about that part. Luckily I was there to assist. We're hoping for one more summer with her. My younger horse is not very well behaved, so been doing some mental exercises with her this week so I know I have something to use when the old one kicks the bucket (funnily enough, they kick buckets daily, but not in that way).

According to current benchmarks 970FX 2300 MHz is nearly as fast as both cores of PA6T 1800 MHz. However, X1000 supports PCIe and Radeon HD is much faster than old R300 in PowerMac G5, so 3D games will be probably faster on X1000 (and maybe even on SAM460EX).

once theoretically assuming that the multicore support (if any ever appears) doesnt slow down the system below the single core implementation and that any kind of hardware accelerated 3d for those pcie cards actually surfaces, this better not being just warp3d port. besides dont g5 macs have pcie anyway?

Not the models that will be (hopefuly soon) supported by MorphOS (970/970FX based). 970MP PowerMacs G5 are a little bit more expensive than and not that common as older models.

@webhead

dunno who the jokes on. My PC rig runs circles around the rig you are describing (for less money too im sure), but thats not the point.
For many amiga w/os 3-4x is a hobby thats fun. It might not be the best money vs speed ratio, but the same can be said for vintage cars too.

If its fun it makes sense.
