@netrot

With this bundle you get OS4 OpenLinux, which is the ultimate Windows Alternative, which doubles as a productuvity OS, multimedia OS, consumer desktop and a great developer platform that is already set up and configured for this package so once you install you launch FS-UAE which is feature wise on PAR with WinUAE, and it imports your ROMS and OS system files from the Amiga Forever DVD and you are ready to go. Our modified Additional Drivers utility is about 99.9% accurate when it comes to detecting your 3D enabled video card and you dont have to worry about setting up WinUAE, you have an easy to use UAE utility that once again in some ways surpasses WinUAE on ease of use and you dont have to worry about configuringcomplex Linux utilities like UAE and E-UAE standalone.

You get an everyday OS that is tailored towards Amiga users and the general desktop market you can use and you get Amiga Forever for playing your older games and running your favorite classic Amiga apps.

OS4 PowerLinux and AmigaOS on PowerPC

What about for machines that already have OS4? A1, Sam, X1k, etc?

Another thing is Amiga PPC machines need custom kernels and initramdisks and have slow boot loaders. I reckon a 20 year old PC would whip them loading a kernel Which is sad, but true.

On top of that, you'd also need to customise a CD for it to boot. USB booting is possible but the X1000 doesn't autoboot USB unless you setup boot scripts on the firmware CLI AFAIK. And the A1 is dog slow.

Try again. Now, IIRC a friend bought an Acer laptop because it had Linux included. But it was Linpus Linux. It was pretty bad. It was only CLI based. And when he tried to upgrade it to the main GUI version it just broke. The drivers didn't support the laptop at all. Which was strange, the full version of the included OS didn't support the hardware of the mini version so to speak.

Does that mean Acer are better organised now with preinstalled Linux?

For those of you that have sent me e-mail that you hope that

Gee that's sad. I can't believe the Amiga community would go so low about computers. It's not like you have said "We are making the next Amiga, it's x86 and it's going to run OS4." Which almost everyone said they wanted ten years ago! Lame. If you were a dictator or a murderer or some other bad-ass that we knew about then fine. But sheesh, the children? C'mon guys think of the children. When people make death threats or death wants over something so trivial when the world has real problems they really are self obsessed and showing they have mental problems!

Now be careful. CUSA caused quite a stir. Amiga people just don't like Amiga, x86 and Linux in the same sentence, Both OS4 and AROS have been accussed of being Amiga sitting on top of Linux. And you may come across as the protege of CUSA. Or coming after their wake.

No I'm saying their Linux support hasn't always been the best.

In fact they like Windows to be installed when they do hardware fixes according to my friend who sent his laptop back about three times. IIRC his screen, speakers and DVD drive stopped working on different occasions. Loose cables. Then the power cable failed and now it won't even turn on. Didn't make Acer look good. At least they fixed the faults.

Sorry. I must have read your post incorrectly.

You quoted:

and seemed to follow that with a LOL. My mistake.

And AmigaOS 4 is accused of becoming way too Linux too (SOBJ, AmiCygnix ...)

Surely, and everything is becoming or accused of becoming Linux like.
Victory of open source concept, only remaining alternative or something else...

Linux is there on everything, every CPU architecture and is becoming really usable.

I don`t see OS4 Linux as a major distro, we ll see how this "Amiga influences" will do on PC market.
Is kind of retro wawe overestimated as cultural phenomena?

We just need to stop calling AmigaOS4 for OS4, it because its starting to get confusing, thats what I mean, anyway it be way better if just ignore this Robert guy, what he has to offer is already out there.

What is really trying to do sell stock PC's whit UAE or AROS hosted to AROS people for more then way you pay for it in there local computer stores?

I don´t think it is confusing for most in our community. If you say OS4 on Amiga related page, it is clear what you mean.

Not that I really care but you have Xamiga Linux distribution,

http://web.archive.org/web/20080516154313/http://xamiga.net/

Who does not remember Amithlon, UAE on top of Modified Linux kernel.

And AROS hosted:

http://aros.sourceforge.net/documentation/users/using.php#aros-hosted-an-operating-system-in-an-operating-system

I also belive there was a “Amiga Forever” live cd

it has been done before, but now he also try to confuse this community whit OS4 reference.

Actually the price is 60 world wide. If you live outside the US, Canada and Puerto Rico we do charge shipping but the base price of the distro is $60 USD
