Ive deleted my side of the converation here. Just couldnt be bothered with this nonsense anymore. There's more important things in life.

Basic jist however is that I saw RAW had been uploaded to aminet and remembered some years ago there was issues with this when the author of Another World decided to port it to mobile devices. It was being forced off websites in both source and binary forms for legal reasons. Being that aminet is all legal software I thought I'd mention it.

Do with that info as you will.

@fishy_fis

I don't think it's the original. It seems to be a reverse engineered engine. (like ScummVM)

What's your problem? it's quote: "A re-implemntation" released under GNU public license. it contains NewRAW which is "based on RAW" and it's a sourceforge project so aminet are not going to be in any trouble for hosting it.

None of the original files are included, it tells you which version to buy, so can't hurt sales in any way could even promote some and shift old (ancient really) stock. Think of it as free advertising for Eric Chahi's work which might get people wondering what he's producing now etc.

Do you really think authors and companies are worring about some 20 year old game being emulated? They're worried about their current and next games.

@fishy_fis

I did my research, downloaded the archive from OS4Depot not Aminet, read all the docs and can't see any problem with Aminet hosting the file. there's is nothing illegal in that archive.

I just wanted to know what your problem with it was. can't be bacause it contains RAW because it doesn't.

If Eric Chahi (I say this, because if my memory is good, he's the creator of Another Wold) thinks that this software is in some way or another illegal, it's up to him to take proper actions for this link to be removed. Eventually, you can alert him if you feel that much you do things right.

This has existed for a number of years for all amiga-oid systems, but due to its illegal nature hasnt been uploaded before now.
Perhaps the uploader isnt aware of the history of the software, but it needs to be removed. I'd hate to see aminet receive any grief for it.

How does one go about having software removed from aminet?

With that logic all the other clone clients have to be removed as well which means that alot of the games on aminet will vanish. Afaik it includes no game files and is just the executable client so you still need to have a legally bought game to transfer the data files over just like with all the doom, quake clients and so on.

The difference being that the author of another world *did* successfully take action against the interperator and sites hosting it in the past when he decided to port it to mobile platforms, etc.

Care to share any sources for this claim? And was it about this exact version, or some other (possibly not reverse engineered) version?

Are you trying be be more catholic than the pope? If you feel like you have to do something about it, write directly to Eric and let him deside if it is illegal (and how to prove it) or not. Otherwise take a chill pill.

Eric Chahis requested "RAW" to be discontinued, there were no real legal issues. IIRC Chahi was working on the HD version for Windows at that time. It was discontinued, but another coder took over later on ("NewRAW"). The upload to Aminet is a port of another follow-up project.

@all:

Pointing out software that shouldn't be hosted on Aminet means protecting Aminet. No need to get so defensive.
