| New Nokia is now more profitable than ex/old Nokia.

(but more narrow market is another risk... in a few years Nokia could start making phones again, if so decided, perhaps with Sailfish OS)
(old "idea" by forbes?) "the Nokia Board has hit ctrl-alt-delete on their loss making adventure with Microsoft. Now they are rebooting the company that invented the smartphone." That's good to see
But I don't think they'll head into the phone business again.
Just like computers and their software became so complex in the '90s that only one type (PCs and variants of it) and three OSes are still alive today, mobile phones have also reached a level of complexity that only a few big can handle.
Just like Amiga (being Hyperion and A-EON or whoever) cannot make AmigaOS or Amiga-NG HW better than what is currently mainstream in a wide perspective, no single company can come up with a new phone and revolutionalise the world with spectacular HW and OS that will overtake the world easily.
The biggest of companies still can only make a small part of a modern electronic device. Take a PC as a simple example: Intel makes the CPU. Infineon makes the memory. Nvidia makes the graphics. Terratec make the sound. VIA makes the bus/DMA bridges. Seagate makes the harddisk. Dell puts it all together and brands it. Then you buy a Benq monitor, Logitech keyboard&mouse and Creative speakers.
That's not how it was done in the '70-80s; then all was the same brand, specialized. Not possible today, which is why AmigaNG is also a pick of 3rd party components with only the OS being "in-house" developed. Unfortunately our OS team also has to make the drivers which would normally be made by the HW manufacturers for the big brands, slowing development even further for us. _________________ - Don't get fooled by my avatar, I'm not like that (anymore, mostly... maybe only sometimes) > Amiga Classic and OS4 developer for OnyxSoft. |

| Just bought shares yesterday morning;) Dropped my E5 at a renovation job from the roof at home and it still works. Not the first time when it dropped in snow etc. I should renew my pockets?
My friend bought a new laptop. Win8... Not good.
Go Go Nokia! Maybe there are some surprises behind the corner;)
