@agami

hmmmmm... yes that's how it can look like. But I think the law of nature apply on both sides of our small universe bubble.

I've swapped over the engine, replaced the body, and gutted the insides but it's still the same car!

Actually Exec had to be ported from ASM to C and whatever else. But a lot of the code is still in there. And new code added.

Take a look at Workbench. Barely an update. Still lacks built in features. And still doesn't multitask!

Sometimes the best way about things is to rewrite from scratch. Otherwise you just carry burdens with you. And hamper future development.

@Hillbillylitre

Some of the best developments and inventions come from limitations. Indeed, there are some ideas I've had for programs that wouldn't come to mind if I were not using AmigaOS. The Amiga, especially today, teaches us not to take everything for greated. Sure, today it costs more than ever, but AmigaOS is a poor mans OS. A PC is like a "teenage machine" that expects everything it wants because it has everything in the first place; the PC is a brat! But having everything can also teach you to be lazy, and not bother to be creative or try somnething your own way, because you can probably download something similar that does the job well enough because you stopped caring about being different and making any difference.

@Hypex

poor mans OS?

Are you sure? If I look at the hardware prices

we should not romantize the past... developer had to use all tricks because of missing ressources and not because they had so much fun to invest their time in optimizations and save some RAM

This reminds of a story I read in an alternative book where you chose your own way. A paper version of an adventure game. Remember those?

Anyway, reagrding the universe slowing down and grinding to a halt, or as it is called, heat death, I never understood this. If things are slowing down where does the heat come from that kills everything? Or do they mean the death of heat?

It only cost 30 euros!

Yes I'm sure. Keeping my sentence intact will explain.

I would say that AmigaOS4, note the "4", is a not so smart mans OS. A smart man doesn't throw money down the toilet.

If you want that very little you get out of OS4 you must purchase som very expensive outdated hardware too.

Why not try WinUAE? Then you may decide to buy new hardware, or not.

I use WinUAE sometimes, it's okay to run Amiga Software. I also have BPPC for my old Amiga 1200, but I see no point in OS4. Time doesn't stand still so therefore I've both windows and android hardware with lots of software and full support too.

A smart man spend their money on what they want to and no on what other people say on what they have to spend to

On the other hand diferent people have differet thinking of what is throw money. To me is buy an iPhone but to other people is not. And i do not go to apple forum to insult people that use iphones like you do on amiga forums

And that is the last reply to you that i do. I decided to.....

Good for you, because no one want dictatorship, or what? Some places in the world there are even death penalty for just saying opinions the regime doesn't like. They even imprisoning the population of the country so that they can not make contact with the outside world, that is really sick.

Does Godwin's law apply to an indirect reference to North Korea?

Yes, I remember paper-based adventures. And I also remember I used to have a ton of spare time, and my limited circle of friends also has the same abundance of time.

Heat death is an oversimplification that the astrophysics community has coined but yes, it is the death of heat (as we know it).

I like your comments on how often limitations engender creativity. David Heinemeier Hansson took this principle when creating Ruby on Rails. He refers to it as "The liberating freedom of constraint". Paradoxical but true.
The key balancing act here of course is not to have too many limiting factors, then you engender animosity.

@Fransexy

An Independent man (person) is not the same as a Smart man (person).

And independent man spends his money as is his want.
A smart man is practical, and often practical means going with the middle of the bell curve.

An independent person can buy a Jolla smartphone running Sailfish.
A smart person buys an iPhone because it is practical (support/integration/apps).

Ergo, a smart man is not impractical. Ergo most of us here are not smart men (people).
One isn't better than the other. The smart person should have fewer "bumps" along the road of life. Me? I like bumps.
