Hello,

Most of the time I browse around for answers to amiga questions, but I thought to say hi on the fora here and get some pro answers.

I have a classic amiga 500 with a mouse but no software.

Since I do not want to ruin what's left of the community and companies, I wonder where I can find an OS such as workbench software for it (version 1.2, I presume). Then again I would like to know if it's ok to write adf images I found to floppy disk without paying for them on e.g. a linux box.

I know about the GNU tools for amigos and m68k processors but they might be out of line with the old system version. I have fs-uae and winuae on my machines but I don't know whether writing games for it is useful with just the emulator.

I know some BASIC, PASCAL and mostly C/C++ and I wonder if I can program in these languages on the A500 system itself. Other languages are also no problem but I guess there is no smalltalk-80 for it

If you can help me thanks in advance.

@ghosty3

Just so you know, you can't write adf images to disk on a pc and have them work on an Amiga without some extra hardware.

Hello Amigan!

Well, you can be of real help if you will install WinUAE on your PC and start developing for AmigaOS 3.1/3.x, increasing our software base with useful software.

Also using UAE system you will be soon able to switch between Kickstart 1.2, 1.3, 2.0 and 3.0 and realize software common for all versions, such as games for 500 machine only hardware, or more complex hardware...

There are many books and tutorials on how programming on Amiga.

Many developing software can be found on Aminet repository on internet (you will able to find it with a simple google search) and start developing using open development tools.

If I remember well, on Aminet you can also find "Includes & Autodocs" useful hints on how access hardware chips once present on Commodore Registered Developers Only Floppy Disks.
