If you like to make hardware for Amiga market this are things you should consider.
Part of problem, I think is number people wonting to design hardware for Amiga, they lacked the skills or the money or the time, its key to success here will be keep It a small project, they keep costs down.
TTM – Time To Marked, the time to design test and make sure it’s working, is key components have self-life. If TTM takes too long the components you use will not be obtainable. Or hard to obtain at decent price.
Reuse, driver already exists for number sound cards, and network card, and sata controllers, getting the product out into the marked quickly will depend on reuse, if new hardware is picked it can delay TTM. Only if all hardware is EOL, should new hardware be considered, or will be EOL.
Quantity, cost of producing only a few compared to producing millions is pretty big, there for make little to no sense replicate what is already on the marked in quantity’s, so good design should be minimalistic, it should provide ways to plugin products from the self.
FPGA’s should be considered, due to the unpredictable nature of the self-components, FPGA key benefits, can be fixed, after it’s on the marked by flash upgraded, will most likely not go out of date, often FPGA takes up less space on motherboard, because they can include, sound, usb, sata, and network in one package. Temperature and voltage sensors, fan speed regulation. Can also include things like blitter, ciaa/ciab, and other legacy chips no longer in production for better backwards compatibility.
If it’s likely that part can need to be replaced, it should be design in way to make it replaceable / upgradeable, so that avoid complete redesign, modular design.
Design should also make as easily as possible replace firmware without bricking the computer, to make it as safe as possible to update and write firmware.
Should avoid any incompatible PowerPC isa’s to avoid having to spend years trying to workaround things in software. (I say go for full featured CPU AltiVec, 64bit, 32bit, dual or quad core, DDR3, standard FPU).
