Has anyone had this problem whereby whatever is in Devs/Monitors it still just shows up a handful of PAL modes in the Prefs! No NTSC modes, no P96 modes (all in Devs/Monitors) just PAL! How could it do this! I've reinstalled from scratch and the problem has gone away but how could this issue arise! I thought the ScreenMode Prefs scans what's in Devs and displays options accordingly? I have a backup of the old partition that would be good to try and correct!

Never had this problem, but I use CGX4.

Check that all your ToolTypes for your Icons in Devs/ Monitors are correct.

I suspect that on startup your system could not find them then defaulted to
whatever your Agnes chip is.

Sounds like you lost a few lines in startup-sequence, the ones that runs all the monitor drivers in devs:monitors.

Yeah, that was it! For some reason the following had semi-colons at the start of every line:

Now get an AmigaDOS error message:

DEVS:Monitors/Not: Unknown command

?!!?

I can't see anything like that in the Startup-Sequence!

Well, or a shortcoming with the script, it isn't the smartest (and neither are any of the LoadMonDrvs or BindMonitor commands that have appeared). The below is an attempt at being slightly smarter, and would have skipped your folder and also works with any monitor driver that might have space in its filename...

  If EXISTS DEVS:Monitors/VGAOnly
     DEVS:Monitors/VGAOnly

Thanks, I'll tweak that. My stripped back new WB3.1 install is proving more stable for some uses so I'm glad I went down that rabbit hole. It's a shame software bug fixes were uncommon after new WB version releases!

...scratch that, my tweaked and hard won original 3.1 if both smaller and more stable! It must have come from the 3.1 pre-install on the OS3.5 CD too originally as it identifies as Workbench 44.2 even though it is just vanilla 3.1!
