@mr2

Seems interesting.
Legality is another matter.
I guess this will raise some debate
Now where is the MOS emulator for OS4?

@mr2

Apparently it loads VBCC compiled binaries, and provided they only use Exec, DOS and Utility libraries, they will run. Although IO with any devices is said to work.

I don't know if it emulates the new functions of Exec, DOS and Utility, though.

It shouldn't break any law I'm aware of.

But as mentioned, it seems to be a bit limited currently.

@xeron

I wonder if this is a result of the unfortunate leak of the debug kernal in May? It was only a matter of time.

Still this is good in a way as it means if it gets good enough maybe they will be able to buy OS4 CDs to get the rest of the operating system and give those unfortunate MorphOS users a way out from their now deadended operating system ( see MorphZone ).

( see also here http://www.amiga.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=21132&forum=22&post_id=275205#forumpost275205 )

But according to one person on that thread who claims to speak for everyone with MorphOS they aren't going to use AOS4 ever anyhow so it may never be used by anyone....

What a terrible mess over there at the mo.

Dave.

Yeah, that's another thing.

But I think that software they are running, are not prohibited to run as emulated.

The future of MOS is uncertain, now they release emulator. Strange coincidence.
Maybe someone try to force Hyperion to port OS4 for Peg?
Anyway its not good. Selling OS without hw dongle (AOne) is not good idea.

Getting AOS4 API compatile apps to run on as many devices as possible is good for AOS4 application developers, more potential market, right?

And it makes the AOS4 API a more strong platform, right?

So, big thanks to MOS developer community.
(even though they migh be digging the ground off from their own platform)

Jokingly: Is this a new trick to enable running NG workbench or AOS4 version of DopusMagellan on MOS instead of new Ambient.

From Dictionary.com:

Quote:
don·gle
n.

A hardware device that serves as copy protection for certain software by rendering the software inoperable when the device is not plugged into a printer port

Now, how exactly do I plug the AmigaOne to the printer port of which computer in order to run AmigaOS4?

Great. Have you ever thought about the system vendor ?

Yes, but by canibalizing the effort of the actual vendor.

I'm sorry if I can't share your enthusiasm.

@KimmoK

All that could be achieved by emulating OS 4 on MOS would be cannibalizing the OS 4 sales and therefore stopping the development. Great, really.

I'm not so sure about it... i believe that the vast majority of emulators' users (regardless the platform to be emulated) happily survive with illegal roms/OSes, so it wouldn't be such a great idea for Amiga/Hyperion IMHO.
How many days (if not hours) do you think would pass before OS4 starting to appear on emule/bittorrent/whatever?

Uhm... re-reading my own post: on the author's site i cannot find much infos... is it going to be an API a-la WINE or a sort of "framework" to install the real OS4 on top of? It would change slightly, the second option would be the holy grail of the piracy, while the first not but it'd still mean less sales for Amiga/Hyperion/Eyetech.

Normally I'd agree, but judging by a press release which appeared and mysteriously disappeared from Genesi's site, it looks like they're planning to ditch MOS as a desktop operating system. For a buyer, the ability to run OS4 as well as MOS apps wouldn't be such a deciding factor as whether or not the OS has any kind of future... Don't forget, OS/2 Warp can run some Windows 16 bit apps...

Are you saying OS/2 Warp doesn't have a future?
