| @ironfist Do you do anything other than complain? (EDIT: OK. you posted the news item!)
DIMMs are no problem, your dealer can supply the right memory when you buy the Sam440.
Is there really any point connecting a super-fast PCI-Express slot to a 66MHz bus? Especially since only new gfx-cards use it, and I doubt OS4 has support for any of those chipsets.
Regarding hard-to-find cards, have you heard of mail/internet order? Or maybe your local computer shop can get one in specially for you - try asking... Last edited by ChrisH on 01-Jan-2009 at 01:06 PM.

| ChrisH: I posted the news-item, didn't I? :)
But the memory and problematic graphic card expandibility is a major disadvantage for the Sam440ep-Flex. |

| One very beaty design of this motherboard and best with the option the connect hardware cards instead of to be included in the board. Only the price... |

| I don't understand why people complain, with 20% VAT the Sam-Flex is 108 EUR cheaper than the Sam440. Add 512MB RAM and a 128MB Radeon 9250, and you still have a system costing about 50 EUR less, with a better gfx solution (twice as much video RAM), and more expandability. It is definitely a significant improvement over the original Sam440, and I'm sure the price of the board will be reduced further if there's enough demand for it (remember the original Sam440 also dropped in price since its initial announcement).
@ironfist
Getting RAM and Gfx card is no problem since the dealers who distribute the Sam-flex will supply them. Last edited by COBRA on 01-Jan-2009 at 11:30 AM.

well... my greater complain was about CPU power... I like VERY much if anyone can answer to my question about overclocking... _________________ Simone"Tuxedo"Monsignori, Perugia, ITALY.

holy words! this is the best spot of the beginning of the year!
I really don't get why people blames ACube if they can't or wont affort it! i can't affort it just now hence i'll skip it.
Is ACube fault? _________________

Oh, and why didn't they connect a PCIe-slot and wired it to the PCI-bus? Just like bPlan did with the Pegasos and the AGP-port. |

as already said on iksnet forum, a Radeon 9250 PCI card with 128 Mb on board (the double of the M9) and 512 Mb DDR ram are about 60 Euro, therefore a Sam-flex will be cheaper than a normal Sam and you'll have more gfx memory, up to 1 Gb DDR ram, and an additional PCI slot. _________________ Massimiliano Tretene, ACube Systems, Soft3

Thank you for the information that's very good to here, it just feels like I have been waiting for ever.
The new flex board looks nice but personally I am much happier with the smaller mini-itx for factor and am willing to pay the extra.
Different people have different requirements so I hope 2009 will the year were users can to decide to order which ever sam440 meets their needs best and get their new computer with in days not months.
I am also very happy with my ACube manufactured Minimig which I purchased earlier in 2008 and I hope ACube will be offering the ARM boards for sale for them that had hard disk emulation when the design for the add-on board is ready. _________________ Sam440ep 667mhz, 512MB, 120GB 2.5" HD, OS4.1FE WinUae 3.0.0, OS 3.9, BB3, Catweasel MkIV Amiga 1200, Blizzard 040/40 (BlizzardPPC 060/200 with SCSI removed at present), mediatorSX pci, Voodoo3, PCI network card os 3.9BB2 4MB Minimig with ARM addon boar

we must know exact how much cheaper this will be, so we can compare with older sam440 price. its the only way to stop the whiners....
@a1 & a1micro owners
this is not for you if you want more ghz, you have a good machine be happy and enjoy it, there is no need to whine. in the future there will be faster amigas everyone know that, but its not gonna happen over nigth, all we need now is to grow. get the much needed internet browser and other needed appz that dont depend on 3d gfx.. _________________ I was a ZX Spectrum owner....

| There are plenty of ATI 9200 series boards on eBay and probably other venues ,either NOS or used.I have purchased several at an average unit total including shipping around $20 so that I might standardize my efika,G4 Mac,x86, and the Sam when I can afford one.
Probably same for the memory.
The price and availability may not be what we want but Sam boards are only new Amiga 4 class available.
Acube may be in a Catch-22;ordering a much bigger run of boards would certainly bring down the unit cost but maybe they don't have the funds to pay for such a run.So small run forces the price up and limits the number who will buy.Neither are thousands going to pre-pay several hundred dollar, especially in view of present delays and how some other past companies pre-pay schemes failed.
You can denigrate Acube for profiteering or applaud Acube for providing new product for a group so small all other computer makers ignore.
I think Sam flex is still slighter better than Sam original because of the extra memory space, and increased choices the extra PCI slots give.It is not cutting edge technology in the Wintel World but it is an upgrade path for Amiga users. |

Tnx for reply! Unfortunately the poor sam cpu power wasnt the better way to sell boards... I think that many guys will buy a sam immedaiately without thinking a second if only the cpu clock was 1GHz... However I know your efforts at ACube to bring up Amiga in 2008/9...good work and hope to see more news in next months!

As a normal user, not having 1 Gig Ethernet is good, cause it won't be wasted. Bandwidth on cable is still no where near that.
1Gig RAM, what are you going to load to even use that much on an Amiga?
667Mhz is the only AMCC chip in that class, but moving to a 1.0 - 1.5Ghz AMCC should be possible by 2010 / the future, as these chips exist already for evaluation purposes. Right now if the code isn't optimized for 667Mhz then its not the hardware's fault, its the programming teams fault. We Amiga users know this cause 6-14Mhz was enough for the 68K classics for a long time.
|
: Yes, surely the rest of the worlds hardware manufacturers should 'learn a lesson' from you and ACube then, that low specs and requiring already obsolete parts (RAM and gfx/PCI) are somehow 'good.' Not.
*Except* for my A1, all of my systems are using GigE, and would additionally be using jumbo frames, *except* I can't enable jumbo frames without disconnecting my A1, or further segregation of my home network into additional VLANs. And yes, that bandwidth is indeed used, and has *nothing* to do with traffic to the outside world. Full backups to a real NAS, for one...
While a 1GHz range chip would certainly be welcome, my biggest gripe is the performance vs price. Put another way - if not for running OS4 on it, *very* few people would pay that price for what you get, for consumer use.
I'm glad to see ACube, or someone, is producing something that will run OS4, although note - there is still no availability date announced. I continue to hope at some point their pricing (for whatever system, does not have to be the SAM) is in line with it's performance and specs. _________________ Are we not done with the same silly arguments and flames yet??!

| Actually i thought it was pretty good value for money, I mean considering the economy of scale and all that rubbish.
That said, as a µA1 owner I won't be buying one. _________________ Rage quited 29th May 2011
