Announcement   Announcement : Goodbye To All
   posted by jorit2 on 24-Apr-2011 2:33:37 (26293 reads)
Hi All,

Just to mention, and for what it's worth, and it won't change anything I guess But maybe, just maybe, someone might be interested to know ...

I left the Amiga scene completely, never to look back. I also stepped down from Hyperion.

Nuff said

Take care,
Evert

@tomazkid : Has anyone asked Evert Carton or Hyperion, if this announcement is for real?

Hmmm, not trying to be negative, but...

It looks like this 'news' item is just to stir up things. Or to show frustration.
I mean just creating an acount to post this as news, with no extra or background information.

Anyway...

Hope you find greener pastures mate !

Martin

@evert

assuming this note is actually from you and not some imposter, my personal thanks for your long service to the amiga platform and community. my best wishes going forward both personally and professionally.

if this note isn't genuine, however....

Ciao whoever you are, thank you for whatever you've done. and good luck with wherever you are going.

That being said, in the old days of pay phones I might say "Here you go kind sir have some spare change and call someone who gives a rats".

Hopefully he wasn't the guy with all the money, and also that Hyperion is not severely impacted, but coming in like that out of the blue with no context and drop a "news" item is pretty lame.

Could be the AmigaBlitter comeback effect? I'll never knew that i have such power. Should try to left and back the amiga two times more to fire off the twin brothers.

According to Wikipedia, is who replaced Ben Hermans "Hyperion's current Managing Partner is Evert Carton, who took over the position after Ben Hermans stepped down in mid-2003."

If this is the real Evert Carton, I would like to know the true implications of this announcement before I make my next purchase.

@tomazkid
How do you know this message is really from the real Evert? Bearing in mind the poster's account is brand new? If the only proof is they registered using a Hyperion email address, well, even Hyperion can be hacked...

As others have said, this "news" item is too short & without any clear explanation to make any sense (to me anyway).

It's a bit weird. I've no idea what the background is, but at the minute this news item (or rather teaser) comes across like an attempt to spite/ hurt Hyperion.

If that's not the case, then it might help for Evert Carton to provide some extra detail, to clear that up.

And if that is the case, then maybe he should provide some extra detail, so he doesn't look like he's being a drama queen for the sake of it.

Either way, extra detail would be good I'm not sure this (maddeningly cryptic) announcement reflects well on him, which is really unfortunate if he's the wronged party.

And the resulting confusion (as noted by "my next purchase" above) certainly isn't good for Hyperion. They could really do with making a timely comment to reassure current and potential customers, who will be put off by hints of trouble in paradise.

Allright, here goes:

The message is genuine. I am indeed Evert Carton, former managing partner in Hyperion. I created a new account, i used to have jorit, but that was tied to an Hyperion email address, and I had long lost the according password.

- It is not an attempt to hurt Hyperion.
- It will not have any impact whatsoever on anything Hyperion related.

As a matter of fact, I have not been involved in anything Amiga related for at least a couple o' years now. I have actually not done anything Hyperion-related even, for the last couple o' years.
I moved on a couple o' years ago, decided not to become part of A-Eon or the X1000 project, have been busy with completely unrelated things, and my involvement in Hyperion, has hence become ... pointless (for lack of a better word)

There's no ill intention whatsoever.

Some background ?
Hyperion was originally founded with the idea that all partners, that was Ben and me, would do our own thing within Hyperion. As Hyperion grew into a predominantly 'Amiga-ish'-company, and has over time sucked up all the available resources, there was not much space for my own genuine interests.
Moreover, with the name Hyperion actually somewhat conflicting with my business interests, I started something else, also already a couple o' years ago.
It may help you to put things into perspective, if you know that I've never been a so-called Amigan ... I came from a very different background.

So, again, no bashing, no intention to hurt ... it's a simple story of each going his own way. And I do wish Hyperion and all involved, Success !
To me, it's like cleaning house (hope that 's the appropriate expression) and getting ready for the next big (or not so big) thing, and it looks it's not even gonna be computer related.

I could have chosen not to say anything, but I felt it may have been worth mentioning.

Hope this helps ...
Evert
