hardware OS4   hardware OS4 : The world's first public AmigaOne webserver
posted by ikir on 22-Feb-2004 21:21:04 (5172 reads)
While celebrating the launch of the new dedicated 2Mbit line, Ikir Sector is proud to announce, after an experimentation phase lasted 4 months, that the IkSNet web portal, and all the other associated sites, are running on an AmigaOne G3-SE web server.

The web server is financed by Alternative-Technology, while the technical managment is
assigned to Soft3.
You'll find more informations about it on our site. You are all invited to visit www.iksnet.it and to try the server.

Ikir, Sector, the Italian Alternative Computing web portal.

Please note: the line may be overloaded due this announcement.

Isn't Doug McLaughlin running stricq.com off of an AmigaOne?

Although saying that, it seems to be down and mentions Red Hat, so perhaps not.

We have the server online from more than 4 months now! It rocks

The website requires a css capable browser.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

Linux Debian. The state of the art.

Maybe in the future it will run on a server version of OS4

Cool. Hopefully the MicroA1 and the G3 processor will later provide a heat/power/space advantage that allows for many more Amigas to become webservers like this, even if they run Linux.

Ideally they'd run OS4, but volume production = cheaper for us, so at the end of the day, who cares if they run Linux initially ?

Don't you think that an A1 might be a tad bit ... overpowered to run a webserver? I know of a site (granted, it appears to be down at the moment) that runs its webserver off a C64 (When it's up, it's here), although I haven't seen a link to it from the parent site (here) so it might just be that the C64 webserver is no more...

You need another one to play when the computer is actually ready to use.
Maybe add more for malfunctions and then we'll have music all day.

Yes i know your problem, but it's impossible to translate in English, Iksnet is a a pubblic forum, not a simple static site ...

Looks spiffy in FireFox.

Have you tried scaling it? Any idea how many connections she'll handle before she buckles?

What's That Site Running? http://uptime.netcraft.com/up/graph/?host=www.iksnet.it

Apache/1.3.26 (Unix) Debian GNU/Linux PHP/4.1.2

I think the admin should modify the Apache signature to show it's running on Amiga.

Yes but a C64 doesn't run a php/mysql website with thousands of hits, and thousands of forum posts everyday, and www.iksnet.it it is only one website, we have several sites in our network, and the AmigaOne is doing its job very well.

Hehe, well around christmas 2002 I ran my personal website on my AmigaOne G3SE (now a G4 XE).
But in the meantime I have swapped servers again back to my AMD server (running linux).

Though it may seem necessary to switch it back to my A1 since my amd server just trashed it's ram

AmigaOne is a better server

We runs this public server since October-november. It was an exiting experience! I want to thanks again Soft3 and Alternative-Technology for their work. And Eyetech for bringing A1 a reality

Well i know a site that's running on a Pentium 166. I won't say where tho, cos it's running apache 1.0 and a very old version of slackware linux (is that still around?), so it's probably full of security holes.

All depends on wich site a server must host. Our site is quite big, and it is a network now single website. For example i should make a server with my 1200 but for my personal page not for www.amigaworld.net

We are very happy to run on an AmigaOne, and we are receiving a VERY good feeback, thanks to all.
