Software News   Software News : Achim Stegemann (Digital Almanac) leaves Amiga
posted by Anonymous on 2-Jan-2005 9:05:43 (3158 reads)
Today, Achim Stegemann the author of such great programs, like Digital Almanac http://www.digitalalmanac.de/amiga/index.html
or AmiChess announced that he has left the Amiga market for good. Read here http://www.amiga-news.de/de/news/AN-2005-01-00004-DE.html

Due to missing feedback from the porter of the AOS4 version for about six months he also said it might most surely be "dead", too.

The "real" link to Digital Almanac: http://www.digitalalmanac.de/amiga/index.html

Uhm, truly sorry again for the non-functioning links.

OK, to the point, if he's completely leaving the Amiga market, we may convince
him to license his software under GPL, don't you think?

Then there could some decent coder port it to OS4 and advance it.

no problem about the links (not for me at least )

I would hope that he would get back to the Amiga some day... There are lots of Open Source (GPL is evil ) software out there... what we need are good developers.

Of course if he is not going to get back, then I would love to see his software getting released by another person, but I still hope that he will come back

Well it doesn't have to be GPL , but something of that kind so that this
great programs don't get lost and forgotten in time.

EDIT: Thanks to the Mods here, for fixing my links again

I surely won't miss a person who never bothered to translate his website for the profit of non german speaking people.

Don't be too hard to him, there existed an english spoken site, but i believe
he took it offline as soon as he knew he'd quit.

Strange that he shares the site with some FlighSim addons?
http://www.digitalalmanac.de

Maybe this is what he wants to do in future?

IF he's the one that did it, i couldn't find a copyright

I personally don't believe that GPL is the saviour for every software in the world... it'd be better if some SERIOUS and committed developer could arrange a licence to port and sell it, just how Guru Meditation did for DOpus.

He had an english translate too as i remember.
But there is a page like Horny (midisequencer)
and both the page and program is german only.
Too bad as i would liked to test the program.

HDrec is a good example of german coder and
english language. MCP has both german and english :)
Which makes more people understand.
Thats good support and they got good support back
from more people. Credits to these people.

@Raziel:

if you look to morphos-news.de you'll notice that a MorphOS port of AmiCHess exists since a long time already.

That was unnecessarily mean-spirited and rude.
