| "- New Articia S start-up code allowing for usage of two banks of unregistered SDRAM"
This is good news indeed, as there has been a lot of moaning going on in the A1 mailing list conserning the fact that you (before) only could use one bank of unregisterd RAM.
Another argument that the trolls can't use... |

| Several good points here:
1) GUI for config of Articia 2) GUI for config of general firmware settings
If you have ever dropped into the Open Firmware prompt, you know it's like being dropped to a command line without knowing any commands. GUI is good!
3) The already mentioned use of 2 unregistered SDRAM and also note more ram types supported.
So it sounds like it will be less picky about which memory will work out of the box. That will help alot.
Good job Hyperion! |

| Oh yeah, let's not skim past this one:
- Support for POST card displays allowing for rapid detection of specific hardware faults
This is great. Post probe cards usually plug into a PCI slot and will tell you on startup where your system is failing (ie. at memory test, video initialisation, etc.) by displaying a code number which can be referenced. It can make real quick work out of diagnosing a sick system and getting the proper part replaced. I assume this it the type of POST card they are referring to. |

-Still havn't made room on one of the desks here. Let's see ..... I'll have to pack up the Mac IIsi, so the C128D & A1200 hooked up to the one 1084 can be slid over there.
Then, I'll pinch the Hyundai 15" monitor (temporarily) from the K2 Linux-box ...... and set up the XE to run that Hyundai where the 1084 used to sit!
That'll do until I have time to scout-up a 19" CRT! _________________ -vortexau, who's A1 XE-G4 remains at half-RAM ! A2000HD (from 1991) 060 64Mb PicassoII with OS3.5 . . . still working.

| Yes, exactly this sort of POST card.
Jens Schönfeld of Individual Computers has developed one and was nice enough to give us a loaner.
This is really useful fora technician trying to find out why a system is not operating properly. _________________

| Sounds very good.
I'm a bit confused about the "GUI" though - will it be like a normal PC BIOS, or more like the Early Startup Menu? _________________

Well, I'm not Ben, but it is a card used commonly in PC's from the tech bench. If a system is not booting or failing during boot, this card will display a code at the point of failure. That could be, for instance, during initilisation of RAM. This would tell you to try a different stick of Ram or to at least start there. These cards are common in PC shops. I've used them many times, and they are extremely helpful.
Basically it will tell you where the problem is, whether it's the motherboard that is dead, the CPU, memory, video card, etc. This is the one we use in house:
http://www.micro2000.com/products/postprobe/postprobe.html
Notice the LED digits. It will print out a 2 digit code upon failure. That code corresponds to a failure which is referenced in a lookup chart. These are meant for Techs mostly, not end users. |

| Regarding the POST card support:
The normal user will most likely never need this, but imagine if the AmigaOne is used in such things as MediaTerminals etc.. If the system fails you just plug this card in to see whats going wrong instead of looking at each part that could have failed. I think this feature is essential to make the AmigaOne suitable for this kind of usage as nobody wants to spend hours to find out whats going wrong. _________________ "I'd rather be vaguely right than precisely wrong." - J.M.Keynes
