Software News   Software News : coreutils 5.2.1-2 is ready for download (OS4)
   posted by hnl_dk on 26-Jan-2006 21:30:52 (4842 reads)
The GNU Core Utilities are the basic file, shell and text manipulation utilities of the GNU operating system. These are the core utilities which are expected to exist on every operating system.

This is a recompile of coreutils from OS4Depot.net
It is linked against clib2 (cvs version of 20060126 with some fixes I made to symlink).

The older version had problems with memory allocation, that has been fixed in newer versions of clib2... this should be fixed with this version.

The old version was not able to create symbolic links when using *nix path style. That is also fixed through my changes to symlink.

There are no changes to the sourcecode (can be found on OS4Depot.net).

It is at the moment possible to download it at my website... but that file is going to get deleted (as it is not my port) as soon at it gets accepted @ os4depot.net and aminet.net

Wow, between you and ssolie...lots of good stuff!
Hmm, trying to think of the base *nix and toolchain bits...we've got gcc, binutils, sed, awk, grep, gdb, abc-shell, perl, m4, make, find, cvs, svn...is readline ported as well currently?

Thumbs up

edited - err, I was confused, edited out

I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

Yes, and I am, in fact, retarded I was rattling off what we've now got ported, and somehow managed to ignore the content of THIS port. *smacks self!*

As I wrote, this is just a simple recompile of the sources that Steven has provided...
The only thing needed was a little fix to clib2

I’m weary happy to se some progress on this, once where we are stage where can just run configure script and fix few problems, then this is when to fun begins, clearly porting is going to be 100 times easier then when I cross compiled ISpell way back when the first developers pre-release where dropped on the AmigaOne owners.

I took a look at readline once. Could use it for the Lua port just to pretty it up. Seemed like a bit of work so I didn't go anywhere with it.

I also heard a rumour that an OS4 readline was attempted before... have to check on that.

In any case, if someone would like to port readline please just go ahead. I know I could use it for the Lua command line interpreter.
