Software News   Software News : Guru Meditation sponsors Petunia development
posted by GuruMeditation on 17-Sep-2006 1:00:49 (7868 reads)
Since the beginning of the Petunia development sometime late 2000, Álmos Rajnai has been using a classic Amiga to do the work. Every compilation has taken 10 minutes or more, but that is about to change.

Guru Meditation has donated an AmigaOne XE to the Petunia developer and further development will continue on this immensly more powerful platform. Compile times have been reduced to a 20th of the previous time.

Álmos Rajnai has promised to keep using the Amiga 4000 so that optimization to the code will be easier to spot. Developers, still testing their code on legacy hardware, will more easily spot where things are slow, has a better chance of producing optimized code.

Wonderful generosity. Kudos!

Speculation: Perhaps he doesn't need the XE any longer now that he has...

I would like to thank to Guru Meditation for sponsoring the developments, speeded up the development process significantly.

I would also like to take the opportunity to thank Timothy De Groote for his hardware donations to the new A1.

I promise to the Amiga community that I will use this machine well by producing even more software.

So, watch out! Flower Power is on the roll!

@ Rachy

Flower Power = Petunia ?
Flower Power = Something brand new ?

What are the petunia features you are working on or have implemented since first public release?

Have you been in contact with evilrich (Richard Drummond)
the developer behind eUAE?

I would really like to see petunia powered ( enhanced) eUAE so legacy could get speeded up.
or is it technically not possible (IIRC you wrote somewhere that petunia has an API to use by extern programs)?

greetz zErec

Thanks for your hard work till now

Thanks Guru to you too

Now isn't Andreas one of the most wonderfull amiga guys on this world ?
Choosing to support Petunia guy is a very good choice as its one of the
most important pices in OS4. If he can make it even faster then apps
like HDREC maybe would use less cpu. I hope so. Anyway

Good work Andreas (Guru), Rachy, Timothy and all others that helps out.

Edit:
Now i really feel like a baby waiting for his candy.
I just hope there will be more hardware so people can enjoy os4 like me ;)

Your wish is my command...
(Already done.)

Some news about Petunia: since Update4 I fixed many errors in the emulation and also speeded up a lot. (Not every application, but certain applications got a real boost. Like HDRec or Cinema4D.)

What is Flower Power? You will find out. Not now, but sooner or later...

Mainly bugfixes and optimalizations. Nothing unexpected.

I haven't talked about this with Richard (yet) as I remember, I will ask him what are the possibillities, but UAE has a very different requirements than what the OS environment needs, so I am not sure if the cooperation is possible at all.
