Software News   Software News : LookHere2.1 Available
posted by Allanon on 4-Feb-2010 22:18:53 (851 reads)
LookHere2.1 has been released, this is a quick release to fix some severe bugs, but some features has been added as well

here is the change-log from 2.0:
Quote:

- now you can navigate the GUI using the "," (comma), "." (dot) and "-" (dash) to activate the active gadget.
- Added many keyboard shortcuts to the gadgets
- Now the ESC key will exit immediatly during the drawer scanning
- Modified the feedback of the scanning drawer window, now instead of showing all analized files shows only the images found (faster because less update is needed)
- Removed some effects from the Light Effect List
- Fixed a bug in FX selection
- Added the following command line arguments:
-filename FILENAME Show the specified image in fullscreen mode
-drawer DRAWERNAME Scan the specified drawer and stats the slideshow
- Fixed the following behaviour:
When the user open the Viewer and/or Manager windows, then close them and hit the <Open Drawer> or <Open Files> button, at the end of the scanning this two windows were opened automatically to update the contents with the new images.
Now these windows will be updated only when the user manually will re-open them hitting on the Viewer/Managaer buttons.
- Thanks to Tomek now is available the Polish language (in two version one with international character and one without them).
- Fixed the wrong place of the Languages, Cache, Themes and Fonts of the MacOS versions (Thanks to Michael Jurisch and Tipsi).
- Renamed the file <LookHere.Readme> with <LookHere_Readme.txt> of the MacOS versions (Thanks to Michael Jurisch).
- Improved the Loading routine, especially when the [+] switch on the Main Bar is set.
- Many people have asked for windowed thumbnails window, so here it is. I know that should be resizeable: next time you will have it
- Viewer window:
- removed the buttons OPEN DRAWER, OPEN FILES
- added button FULLSCREEN SLIDE
- renamed button PLAY to WINDOWED SLIDE
- MainBar window:
- Removed button SLIDE SHOW
- Thanks to kas1e for bug hunting and suggestions
- Fixed a bug that crashed the application when the user re-opened a window moved out of the screen. Now the window is automatically repositioned inside the screen.
- Thanks to Michael Jurisch for the German translation

Unfortunatly MacOS version are not yet available.

You can download LookHere! from OS4Depot (actually in the queue) or if you do not wish to wait or you need LookHere! for another platform follow

Very nice

I only got round to testing LookHere2 for the first time on my sam44ep (666Mhz) the other day and I was very impressed. I had been looking for a good picture management program under OS4 since getting my sam440 about a year ago and up until now I had been rather disappointed with the ones I had tried.

The only real problem was some of the fades were unusable slow even with the light option selected, but hopefully going by the release notes that should now be fixed

Yes, it "should" be fixed :)
Anyway, please reports any issue with slow fx you may find.
I hope in the next release to give to the user the ability to break any running fx

Maybe I've not understood what you mean...
Have you placed your pictures in the LookHere cache drawer?
Or have you selected the cache drawer for scanning?

Anyway LookHere! skip the cache drawer because it is useless to build the cache of the cache that's why it is ignored.

I am still finding some fades are very slow on my 666Mhz sam440ep (non-flex) the thumbnails windows has the problem worst, but in general the new version feels a lot faster and most of the default fades now work fine on my sam440. I am using a 1280x1024x32bit workbench and have no other screens or additional programs running, switching off hardware the Workbench GUI "compositing effects" Enable (3D acceleration required) in preferences helps a bit but dose not fix the problem on the slow fades after all the thumbnails have been covered by the picture being drawn the effect speeds up a bit.

Now for a few feature requests:

- As I find the transition effects don't really add anything while searching for the picture you are looking for would it be possible to have and option to only use them in slide show modes?

- It would be nice to be able to start a slide show from the selected image in the thumbnail view.

- Finally it would also be nice to be able to delete or copy/move pictures from the thumbnail window.

I'll try to remove slow effects but in the next version you will be able to select which effect to use from a config file or through a gui.
About your requests:

If you want to disable the transitions just click the Fx button, it's a switch to enable/disable transition effects.

Good idea, I'll try to implement this feature in the next release

In which way? Maybe a context menu' with Copy/Move/Delete options would be fine?

Anyway thank you for the feedback!

Thanks I had not realised that the button effected other screens than the Viewer one

Yes that's that I had in mind that way you can Move or delete any out of place photo's you spot, or create new collections from the best ones in a directory.

Thanks for all your hard work and I will look forward to future updates as LookHere is fast becoming one of my favourite OS4 Applications.
