Announcement   Announcement : Silence is truly Golden with new IMICA and Aros, now shipping only £199
   posted by clusteruk on 29-Jun-2010 8:32:48 (4416 reads)
ClusterUK ltd is pleased to launch the new silent IMICA, a nice small unit to run Aros, and is perfect where you do not want to be disturbed by noisy computers. Great for the Amiga fan who wants a low cost and reasonably high performance unit that is fully Aros native. For £199 you get a fully working unit with a 4gb USB drive and 512mb ram, later upgrade with bigger internal drive unit if needed, either a normal 2.5" laptop drive or a totally silent 2.5" SSD drive unit. Because of the low weight, under 2kg Shipping to Europe is only £20 !!

Very nice looking little system, I would pay the £12 to upgrade the ram to 1GB in case you want to dual boot Linux or XP at some point in the future but other than that the base specification looks perfect for a nice little desktop AROS system.

The price is good but as the with the series cars, the single and basic always have good prices, but when you try to adapt it to your needs well, the price rises as with this IMICA, with a hard disks, etc.

@Templario

Agreed, that is if you want to add something then you pay a bit more. £199 was difficult to meet being silent. Good news is you can buy the upgrades yourself cheaper than I can supply them and save a bit on the upgrade.

My original plan was for a system with 1gb ram and a big normal drive for £249, but then people would want a bigger drive or a silent (expensive SSD drive) or even more ram. And others would say too expensive. This way it can be upgraded by me or the owner from a good starting point.

£199 is a great price for a fully working system, and seriously it is a fully working system. Remember if you fit a drive you still have a great ICAROS on a stick to use elsewhere.

Awesome.

I can feel the tide of opinion about AROS and what it can and can't do changing.

You have made a very temping machine, if you added a dvd drive and wifi I might get one good work, not many machine can claim to be silence, specially at this price.

For me anyway i would like to see wifi and some slightly better support for emulation before i get /build a dedicated aros machine, plus the fact that Aros might get ported to sam460 means I will most likely just use it on that.

@amigaNG

You can easily add an external silent DVD drive for around £35 from many stockists.

However, if this proves popular I will enhance it with upgrades to existing owners.

There is actually a mini-PCI-e internal adaptor for connecting a wifi unit and arial. When wifi is complete I will test it.

Yes the wireless will fit in the case, there is a hole for the arial, but until we have wireless and test it I am not promoting it.

It does not come with a dual boot option on the memory stick, but you can install on you own hard disk anyway you like and if people order a drive I can put ubuntu on it if wished as a dual boot option as before, after all I have windows 7 dual booting on my netbook but only IcAros on my IMICA Silent.

I just prefer to concentrate on Aros now not use dual boot because Aros does most things now. But I am always flexible if I can push IMICA's.

Looks like a really nice unit, and at a really nice price as well. Seeing something like this makes me wish AmigaOS had gone X86.

Anyway, my congratualations to ClusterUK, it's time to take a serious look at AROS, I think.

Yes

My details are on the contact us page on www.imica.net, I have a batch coming in next week of cases for screen printing, you could have one of them.

I have to order in small numbers at the moment but will order more as sales increase.

Just so you all know this is the machine I use daily.

Humm, one doubt are you the person behind this proyect? and if it is true, I want know more things about this ICAROS systems, as the one dual boot because yes, I want one little PC for two things, first, run AROS with sound included, and second to install Windos only to play the Battle Field 1942 and all its fantastic mods, and for it this old game but with big mods needs a good machine that cans move the bots, these bots are tanks, airplanes, soldiers, ships, etc.

Yes I am the guy who launched imica ages ago, just purchased the imica.net domain to help with marketing.

Windows 7 will run well on this as I have it on my netbook with same basic board. It is single core but still quite nippy. But if you need real speed then that needs a big PSU and fan.

Have a look at my site for more details on this system. www.imica.net
